It absolutely nails the mechanics for a city-builder and makes it super easy to jump in and build a great city.

1849 finds a few glittering flecks in taking a well-worn RTS template into gold-rush California, but no prime nuggets.

Despite its unique Western setting, 1849 is a run of the mill city builder that might have been made 10 years ago and probably wouldn’t have had much longevity back then either.
