G-Unit Edition isn’t the most competent top-down action game available on the PSP. However, if you’re a fan of 50 Cent or his music, there is a lot of fanfare in the game.

Like the PS2 and Xbox game from last year, 50 Cent: Bulletproof G-Unit Edition still has some snags in its design, but in the process of completely revamping the gameplay structure with the PSP in mind, Vivendi and High Voltage have more than capitalized on the 50 Cent/G-Unit license to create an enjoyable gameplay experience.

The story is unchanged and the notion of unlocking tracks and videos also returns, yet even though his first outing on PS2 saw him get flamed by all but his most loyal fans, G Unit Edition is a surprisingly decent 50 Cent game. Westwood would be proud.

Definitely a must-have for any Fiddy fan but if you’re just concerned with the quality of the gameplay then I would recommend renting this one.

You run around, you shoot people, and that's about it.

It's simple and often satisfying, but 50's world just isn't exciting enough to sustain a whole game's worth of action-RPG-style combat.

This type of game has been done so much better in the past and we just can’t think of anything that makes it stand out – not even the tacked on multiplayer which feels like exactly that.

Oh, it's a fun game for a while, but it quickly becomes monotonous.

It could be a raw and visceral action game, but it’s merely another way to distribute his music and generate interest in his clothing. If you like 50’s tracks but don’t own any of his CDs….then buy the CDs.

After playing this game I came to the sad realization that being a gangsta isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Maybe I don’t want to be a gangsta anymore. It looks like I have to come up with another dream.

There's no character progression to speak of, nor is there anything to the combat beyond a festival of irritating button mashing. Toss in the lack of a decent world map, grainy visuals, a lousy use of the 50 Cent and G Unit licenses, and a completely perfunctory multiplayer, and what you've got is a game that, while marginally better than last year's console game, is a brand of unpleasant all its own.

The new top-down view and play system has a number of flaws. The camera is too close, making navigation a big problem, and the combat is simply a matter of locking on and tapping X a number of times.

Fans of 50 Cent will find a lot to like about the loads of extra content available in Bulletproof but gamers will be disappointed by the repetitive and uninspiring action presented in this PSP game.

The top-down perspective tries to make it seem like Gauntlet for the gangsta generation, but moronic gameplay, insipid level design and tacked on multiplayer work together to cripple the experience.

The multiplayer modes deserve some credit, as fans will no doubt get off on the prospect of playing Deathmatches and truncated Capture The Flag sessions while in the guise of 50 or Slim Shady, but the maps are unlikely to inspire anyone with real multiplayer experience.

It's impossible to understand how the developers came so close to making a good game and then failed so thoroughly.

PSM3 Magazine UK May 9, 2024
Dull, fuzzy graphics, poor camera control and repetitive gameplay spoil both the single and multiplayer game. It's basically no fun whatsoever.

An overhead shooter mash-up of "Dead to Rights" and High Voltage's own "Hunter: The Reckoning", Fiddy's PSP game fails in the same way his songs succeed: by taking one element and repeating it over and over.

If only half of the verve present in the swooping camera zooms and snazzy editing of the cut-scenes had managed to jump to the five hours or so of actual playtime, this might have been a pretty cool game.

A mish-mash of things, which basically is the result of this game: a big mess. Unless you're all about Fiddy, you shouldn't purchase this game… even for 50 cents.
