Jokes are in short supply, as is the serene abstraction often associated with modern puzzle games. The platforming segments and spaced-out checkpoints might annoy the more cerebrally focused, but all told they're a fairly minor part of the game.

Brainy platformer in a retro style aspires for the title of a two-dimensional Portal. Its hardcore puzzles are fresh and bring lots of fun.

As a small-scale project and a £3 game, Gateways is a tiny, tidy success. But as an experiment in aperture science, it might need a little more time in the test chamber.

Gateways is imaginative, no doubt. But to become a '2D-Portal' it needs more challenge and more diversity.

There's barely a single idea here that hasn't been borrowed from elsewhere, and usually done better - but as a compendium of other people's puzzles it still has its charm.
