I enjoyed my time with A Light in the Dark quite a bit on Nintendo Switch and hope to see more from the world. It is rare for visual novels to feel this grounded and real. Hopefully it gets a physical release in the future.

A Light in the Dark’s central refrain is how unfair life can be. Although that might sound like a cheerless premise, the visual novel effectively cultivates the complicated emotional state of a hostage. Whether the writing was just that good or I bonded with my captors, I didn’t want my confinement to end.

A Light in the Dark is a great visual novel with an interesting story and segments where you have to interact with the characters to alter what happens. It is pretty short, but there are multiple endings that tell more of the stories of both the hostage and his captors.
