With High Treason, Act of War has become one of the most flexible multiplayer RTSs since "Rise of Nations." It's also still the best "Command & Conquer: Generals" clone since, well, "Command & Conquer: Generals."

High Treason ratchets up the cool gameplay and techno-thriller storytelling that was introduced in Act of War.

The naval combat and countryside levels make a change from the urban warfare that ran through the original, but it's the engaging, conspiracy-fuelled storyline that keeps this feeling fresh.

A decent add-on, but lacks the drive that made the original game so good. The graphics are still great.

Overall, it's pretty much what you'd expect in an expansion: more stuff. And even if that stuff isn't well thought-out, there's enough of it here that High Treason is well worth your time and money.

High Treason is a great game all around, but will most likely not gain the attention of most gamers, due to Atari’s muted response Direct Action. Without more online players, and with other competing modern-warfare RTS’s, High Treason is likely to slip under the radar, never gaining the popularity it deserves.

It's still a mimic of "Command & Conquer" at heart, and it still screws up some basic stuff.

That there are a couple more modes for fighting other humans underlines that this is a pack that exists primarily for those who play online - and without even giving a decent experimentation zone to play with the new possibilities of the ships without embarrassing yourself in front of a peer by crashing into a pier. Or something.
