Age of Mythology’s least-loved extension looks like it has been remastered in its remastered edition, and we’ll be able play as China ‘soon’

Xbox's Tokyo Game Show presented a few tantalizing seconds of a new Age of Mythology expansion. It was Age of Empires: The Definitive Edition-ification of 2002's god-battling RTS.

Immortal Pillars is the name of the game, and based on the brief glimpse, it's the one that will bring the Chinese civilisation to the game. Some players were confused when Age of Mythology: Retold came out, wondering why it didn't include the Chinese civilisation that was added to the original game with its Tale of the Dragon 2016 expansion. Most likely, the developers of Retold did not like that expansion, and wanted to rework before including it in their re-do.

I suppose that the reworking is already underway. In the trailer we see snippets of Chinese soldiers, junks floating on the water and various mythological creatures from China that I, a guy from the UK East Midlands, am not confident in identifying.

The proof will be in your pudding. When will the pudding be ready? Xbox does not want you to know yet. Instead, it invites you to wishlist this pudding on Steam, where the release date is "Coming Soon". By the way, the expansion is called the pudding. Sorry if you got excited about pudding. No pudding is coming.

I have a good feeling despite its brief appearance. Our Age of Mythology: Retold Review was very positive about the game. It scored it 75%, and praised the visual overhaul as it made a difference even with the now-creaky old game's mechanics. The fact that they have decided to rework an unloved original expansion into something which hopefully will succeed a bit more suggests that their hearts are in a good place. We'll have wait until the pudding is ready before I can make any definitive statements.
