Alter Echo Critic Reviews

A good game but the developers made one serious mistake. By making the game so short and with no multi-player or any serious replay value, Outrage has created the perfect rental.

Almost every texture in the game is soaked in bright neon colors to deliver a stylistic sci-fi setting. Unfortunately, where Alter Echo excels in graphics and gameplay, it comes up short in plot and personality.

A unique action game that’s repetitive in its style and level structure, Alter Echo is kept from being boring by its over-exaggerated morphing combo system and a wide variety of enemies that adapt to your attacks.

Alter Echo is great but has one unforgivable issue: repetitive gameplay.

It would have been nice to have seen some more variety in the environments, and the instances of backtracking through areas you've already visited are disappointing. But the game's exciting, free-form combat makes up for those deficiencies.

While it's not exactly triple-A, Alter Echo is one of the most innovative and all-around interesting action-adventures you're likely to play this year.

Brings some interesting gameplay elements to the table, but the execution falls short and it ends up being simply average, along with a thousand other no-name action titles.

Does a good job in bringing something new to the platform table, but it just doesn't overcome its weaknesses in level design, overall control and the fact that it doesn't stand out as a high-quality platformer. What it does have is the morph ability, but the coolness of that can only last for so long.

A light and breezy Sci-Fi romp, it has enough juice to occupy anyone in need of a good weekend diversion. It won't start trends (and I doubt it will set sales records) but there's something to be said for a project that's as solid and sincere as this one.

There's an abundance of camera problems and the enemy AI is dumb as a doornail.

At no more than 7 hours from start to finish, I’m sure most players can spare an evening.

The coolness of the character-morphing and combat are overshadowed by the repetitive and linear play and a lackluster look.

I just wish the game stood up and presented more of an open-ended challenge and demanded that I master all of them instead of having me slog through enemies in such a linear fashion --both conceptually and in the game world.

But the game's star is really Nevin's cool, morphable costume, which gives new meaning to the phrase "class action suit."

The story is predictable to a fault, but with a nice twist ending.

It lacks the imagination that the design documents must have been crying out for, and ultimately feels too much like psychedelic paintball in a foam-padded adventure playground.

You'll never get lost instantly die from misjudged jumps, or have to play through difficult parts ten times over. Consequently, it's also a little too easy.

Eventually Outrage Games' baby reveals itself to be a generic and ultimately repetitive hack-and-slash endeavor that can’t hold a candle to the likes of "Soul Reaver 2" and "Mark of Kri."

There's some mindless fun on offer here, but in terms of depth and replay value, Alter Echo simply doesn't cut the mustard.

Movement is achieved by moving using a massively cut down version of Dance Dance Revolution (press buttons on cue) that if done correctly results in a Manga-esque cut scene of destruction. Effectively then, Time Dilation is an elaborate smart bomb. Like its name implies this game is merely a varied echo of what once was original.
