The latest Angry Birds title is a welcome addition to a franchise, which hasn't seen much change since its inception back in 2009. This time you don't smack pigs with a slingshot. Instead, you get a taste of simplified turn-based RPG combat, which works like a charm. The major downside of Angry Birds Epic is its free-to-play format. In a true Japanese-style RPG, you'd never spend real money to buy stuff to make health potions.

Rovio deserves kudos for bashing down the casual wall and inviting RPG and Angry Birds fans alike into the same space without alienating either camp. This is a polished, fun, long and satisfying experience that resists the temptation to sling IAPs at your face.

Angry Birds Epic is a thoroughly engaging turned based RPG that can have wider appeal than the usual entrants in the genre.

More Battleheart than Final Fantasy, Angry Birds Epic is a fun experiment with the usual microtransactions issue. But it's an RPG: grinding is inevitable!

Engaging and characterized by an immediate gameplay, this title has suprised us positively. Those players who were expecting a renewal of the series will find Angry Birds Epic an interesting game.

Angry Birds Epic has an impressively deep and satisfying battle system, and it’s fun to see the birds in a more personable role.

Angry Birds Epic is for the most part enjoyable, but it’s let down considerably by its endless IAPs and continual nagging. That said, it’s a great introduction to the RPG mechanics for those who want to dip their toes in a little and try something new.

Even though it works, as a RPG it falls short of content, something very important in this kind to games. Still, it's fun and accessible, so if you like the Angry Bird series it deserves a try.

Interesting but underwhelming RPG based on the popular Angry Birds franchise.

Angry Birds Epic is a fun, streamlined, and surprisingly deep RPG, but a dearth of variety and a wealth of in-app purchases will turn off genre junkies.

As a strategy RPG Angry Birds Epic feels a little light, but as an RPG gateway for Angry Birds fans it'll probably do the trick.

Providing a basic introduction to the humble RPG, Angry Birds Epic is sometimes fun but often a little too keen for your money.

For several hours, Angry Birds Epic presents to you the basic mechanics of a turn-based RPG. Just when it starts to get more interesting and mature, the player is questioned to pay or quit. Rovio took a good look at Final Fantasy and recent mobile RPG’s, but cannot make a deep turn-based rpf out of Angry Birds Epic. The in-app purchases flying around and the flashy, colorful character of the levels will even make everyone who is older than 12 crazy.
