Astroneer, the chill exploration-crafting video game, has its first paid expansion after five years.
Astroneer, a sandboxy exploration game with crafting and crafting tools, has released its first expansion after five years free releases and development. Glitchwalkers, a story- and character-focused Astroneer expansion, is a change in pace. It takes the varied mechanics from the old game to a new world with its own progress and save file.
"Aeoluz is our largest and most complex planet to date. Astroneers brave or foolish enough will find new biomes and challenges on this uncharted planet. This planet will be more challenging, as your enemy has rewritten the rules of this world in order to stop you," states developer System Era Softworks.
Astroneer veterans will also be dreading and/or celebrating the return of an old feature from Astroneer’s early access days: Storms. The glitched versions of the storms aren't the same as the dust storms that blew away your stuff and you during the Early Access days, but they're still pretty cool. The glitched storms are available in both the expansion and base game via a free download.
Planet Aeoluz can be accessed by playing Astroneer until you finish the mission "A core concept." Once you've completed the mission "A Core Concept," you can use Glitchwalkers' main menu to drop to Aeoluz.
System Era Softworks has revealed that Astroneer's base game will also receive new, unannounced content. It's a bit crazy, really, because they have spent years giving the game free content updates beyond the 1.0 release and into Early Access in 2019. This is past the three-year Early Access period!
Astroneer and Glitchwalkers are both available on Steam in a bundle for only $18 until the 27th of November.
