A "small update", released this week for Counter-Strike 2, reintroduced the classic map Train in a new, modern look. Train has been a classic of the early days of shooting games in various CS versions since 1999.
Train is a well-known map in esports history because of the many iconic and meme-worthy plays that came out of the tight corners and small battle arena, like the infamous Summit1g Molotov Death during the era CS:GO.
Train's new look emphasizes color variety, as opposed to the more staid concrete-and-light version from Global Offensive. The big change is the new weather and lighting effect. A rainy overcast skies casts a haze like effect across the entire map. There are also other practical considerations. Ladders just didn't work well in a game that was highly competitive.
Train comes with a fancy new map guide from CS2, which will help you learn how to play a map. This one contains four simple grenade tactics for the Terrorist Team. If you want to try out the map guide for Train go to Play then Practice and toggle on Load Map Guides.
It's still a redesigned Train. I'm certain veterans will notice this first. There aren't nearly as many ridiculous nooks and crannys that made low-player matchups feel more like hide-and-seek than tactical shooter.
Valve said, "There's a lot of classic Counter-Strike on this map--but also we made sure to change up the gameplay to keep you Train veterans at your toes."
Counter-Strike 2 is available on Steam for free. You can also read the latest update notes.
