Evolution is a great moniker as this game has helped evolve the traditional adventure gaming genre entirely.

It was silly in all the right ways, and the graphics and the voice acting got the job done. So if you like strange but straightforward adventures, then you might enjoy Atlantis Evolution.

Game Chronicles May 6, 2024
It's a simple game to figure out and it just doesn't feel all that rewarding to play through. There are very few puzzles in it. Most of the time simply exploring an area is passed off as the puzzle. Have the game's developers lost faith in their audience? We want depth, we want frustratingly obtuse symbol puzzles.

A point 'n' click adventure with fresh ideas and a good storyline. However, the game is full of stupid problems, like stick hunting, and the voice actors are quite bad.

There is nothing new to add to the genre and nothing in particular stands out as being outstanding. Still Atlantis Evolution is a solid adventure game that is reminiscent of "Myst."

Just Adventure May 6, 2024
A game that has major highs – the plot, the graphics, the soundtrack - and major lows – the arcade sequences, twisty jungle mazes, lame dialogue and timed events.

It has a few redeeming qualities, but for the most part Atlantis: Evolution is a confusing, annoying experience that does not deserve space on your hard drive.

Despite some rather nice looks and interesting character models, the game manages to do nothing but frustrate and bore.

Atlantis: Evolution hangs its hat on being an adventure game, but it doesn’t present the fine challenge that those who are serious about the sport expect, plus it includes too much tedium for those who are casual players.

If you or a person on your Christmas list would like an adventure game with a good short story and wouldn't mind a few old-school arcade moments, Atlantis Evolution might suffice, but it's far from being a must-play.

The gameplay will have you shaking your head in disbelief and disgust as you encounter one badly designed puzzle, maze, or action sequence after another.

The story wouldn't be half-bad if it weren't for cliched dialogue (delivered by overly dramatic voice actors) and forgettable characters.

A highly frustrating game. If looks are all that count then it's very good looking, but as an adventure game it falls short of providing a satisfying experience. It would have been much improved minus the mini games, with a lot less dying, and with more attention paid to the adventuring puzzles.

Worth Playing May 6, 2024
In spite of the awful gameplay, the instant-death mazes, the inventory items that are nearly invisible, and the useless filler of arcade "puzzles", I kept playing because I wanted to see how this game was going to fail at being dramatic this time.

No evolution here; just a splicing of new and old, resulting in more frustration than fun.

Behind all the problems, the tale of Atlantis and quest to liberate its inhabitants is interesting, and has potential to join the next generation of classic adventures. Instead, it seems more like a throwback to the mid-nineties lineup of marginal games shoveled onto CD-ROM.

Insipid gameplay, laughably bad mini-games, terribly off-key voice acting and aimlessly rambling storyline. About the best thing I can say for this game is it's short.
