Baldur's Gate 3 will end with a bang, with 12 new subclasses. You can now become a drunken lord or befriend some bees. There's also crossplay and photo mode.
When Larian announced in March that it was ready to "move forward" from Baldur’s Gate 3 and not continue working on an expansion which had begun to morph into Baldur’s Gate 4, I assumed it meant that it would also be winding down updates. Since then, we've seen several patches that were substantial. And we just learned of another one on the way. Larian has just added 12 new subclasses to the game as well as a few more goodies.
The new community update states that "we still have one major patch to come before we bid Faerun farewell and move on to other shores." This update, which will be released next year, will include some of the most anticipated features for BG3: photo mode and crossplay, as well as 12 new subclasses.
New subclasses
Subclasses are the real highlight, as they introduce a new way to play for each class. This is a huge addition. What you can expect is:
- Bard: A support class that heals allies while commanding enemies.
- Barbarian: Path of Giants Become a beefcake who uses their rage in order to grow both in size and strength.
- Cleric Death Domain : This subclass is for goths. It focuses on spells which cause necrotic damages and can make corpses exploding. Fun!
- Druid Circle of Stars This celestial Druid subclass offers you three 'Starry" forms with different flavours.
- Oath of Crown : As a righteous subclass of Paladin, you can heal your friends by absorbing damage and disrupt your opponents with divine taunts.
- Arcane Archer : This magical ranged class can banish foes to the Feywild or batter them with psychic damage.
- Drunken Monk: Get drunk before a fight to create the ultimate bar brawl or intoxicate opponents before aggressively waking them up.
- Swarmkeeper is a Ranger subclass designed for bee lovers! You'll also be able summon swarms from moths and jellies. Why not?
- Swashbuckler : BG3 is lacking pirates. This dirty, skulldugger subclass will change that. It allows you to blind and disarm your enemies.
- Sorcerer- Shadow Magic : This subclass allows you to Shadow Walk in dim places, see more clearly in the dark or summon a spooky canine.
- Warlock Hexblade : This Warlock made a pact to summon the ghosts of fallen enemies.
- Wizard- Blade Singing A martial Wizard subclass that combines swordplay with spells, Blade Singing lets you dive into the melee.
Wow, that's some new stuff. I think I'll be playing this game for the rest of my life. Oh well! I can't think of a more terrible fate. Larian has added some homebrew to the mix, as well as a few new D&D-inspired additions. The subclasses have new animations, voice lines, and VFX for Oathbreaker Paladins.
Photo mode and crossplay
The photo mode and crossplay feature are even more exciting than the subclasses.
Crossplay allows you to play with friends on their PS5 and join them in the crossplay lobby. In the photo mode, you can set up your shot using a variety of options and then edit it to make it look perfect. There are a variety of options to play with, including camera settings, lens settings and scene settings. You can also add frames and stickers.
Larian will begin stress testing the patch in January. If you don't want to wait for the release, you will be able find out in the next Community Update how you can take part in the stress test.
I'm incredibly pumped, even if it means I'll probably have to pause my last playthrough. After all, what's the use of playing BG3 unless I can kill goblins with honeybees? I can't even wait.
