Where the game shines is in its siege warfare tactics and deformable terrain. These elements add enough flavor to the gameplay that fans will find the game an enjoyable romp both online and offline.

A competent example of a seriously tiring game structure, which leaps from mediocrity with a reasonable twist to the mechanics. It doesn’t feel bad, and you’ll never hate it for being what it is, it’s just that WarCraft is so much better, and a decent story line or an iota of imagination on the behalf of the developer could have raised the bar that important fraction higher.

If you can forgive the AI and path-finding issues and overlook the slightly decrepit graphics and lack of imagination in the story, then there is some fun to be found in Besieger.

GamerFeed May 6, 2024
The heroes are interesting, the story entertaining, and the battles get adrenaline pumping.

Game Chronicles May 6, 2024
A valiant attempt to try something new, and while it succeeds on a few levels, it fails on just as many.

Besieger won’t offer you anything new, simply covering old ground that has been done better before. With insipid AI and pretty average gameplay, Besieger doesn’t really stand out against the current crop of RTS games.

The game's built-in zerg rush prevention is refreshing and invites strategic creativity, but the pathfinding (and the formation-breaking aggression) bring it right back down to earth. There are so many other places to go for your RTS jones that it's difficult to look past the aggravations.

A real-time strategy game that doesn’t offer anything new, and that doesn’t work particularly well, either. It often looks nice (although its claim of having "photorealistic landscapes" is a joke), but so what if it’s boring and broken?

I would say that the only way you’ll want to play this game is if your house got robbed, you lost all of your CD collection and the Besieger disks were the only ones left. In which case, I’m sorry for you.

GameSpot May 6, 2024
Bogged down by lackluster artificial intelligence and poor pathfinding.

The ease of defense and careful consideration that must be paid to offense is refreshing. However, there are a host of issues, the pathfinding in particular, that turn what should be an entertaining game into a title best left on the shelf.

In Besieger, a different approach to RTS strategy is defeated by poor execution and dismal AI.

Game Informer May 6, 2024
Uninspired design, however, keeps this title firmly lodged in the B-class of RTSs.

Worth Playing May 6, 2024
While the story is decent and the graphics impressive, the overall level of frustration is too much in this game, ruining what would be an otherwise excellent game.

Unfortunately, all the developer's good efforts are ruined by the stinking, incompetent AI, especially in the realms of pathfinding.

Ironically, some of the most enjoyable levels were the sub-missions, where just your heroes and a small band of troops must crawl through monster-infested caverns.

Armchair Empire May 6, 2024
Besieger is, all in all, nothing new; there is nothing that shouts creative genius, and in short, has all been done before.

Gamer's Hell May 6, 2024
The end result of all this micro-management of the great, unwashed masses is that it wrings any possible fun out of the game.

Adrenaline Vault May 6, 2024
Primal tries to interest gamers with its Viking and fortress theme, but without smooth camera controls and decent pathfinding, the effort feels a bit wasted.

A slightly below-average RTS with such poor AI; the whole game is rendered very un-fun. My advice? Unless a pathing patch comes out real soon, ignore this game entirely.
