Blair Witch nails the feeling of the original movie, producing the same paranoia and terror as many felt in the cinemas back in 1999. An essential experience for any horror fan.

In all, Bloober Team has done a great job of capturing the feel and ethos of the film series. With some unique and interesting mechanics, a solid story, and a cute pupper in a lead role, it adds up to something really quite good. A few issues stop it from being perfect, but it certainly does justice to a film that’s held dear to many.

Blair Witch is a harrowing walk in the woods that deserves a spot in the horror game pantheon alongside Amnesia, Silent Hill, and their like.

Bloober Team has managed to forge a new horror game that, although it turns out to be extremely faithful to the lore of the universe created by the first film, it manages to position itself as a product with a unique personality. Its mechanics, setting and artistic design come together to offer a title that tries to generate fear in the player showing respect to his intelligence and avoiding falling into the most overused topics of the genre.

Lionsgate was wise to let Bloober Team loose with its Blair Witch IP. It has treated it with respect, delivering a game that truly does justice to the source material. While its centre part lets it down somewhat, and Bullet’s pathfinding could do with a bit of improvement, it’s one of the scariest horror games ever made. And your reliance on Bullet, as well as the manipulation of found video footage, adds gameplay meat to what usually ends up being little more than a walking simulator. If you’re brave enough, you should definitely enter the woods and face the Blair Witch.

Despite being rough around the edges, Blair Witch is a survival horror delight that will no doubt enrapture fans of the long-running franchise. It stays faithful to what makes the mythos so enticing while pushing it into some unpredictable new directions. Certain mechanics do feel clumsy and don't always hit the mark, with controls on console feeling rather unwieldy when combined with inconsistent performance. But with Bullet by my side, I wasn't alone in the Black Hills Forest, and it's a journey I'll happily take again.

Despite some shortcomings, Blair Witch is an outstanding horror game with great atmosphere, puzzles, and story.

Landing just a handful of months after its E3 reveal, Blair Witch stands proudly as one of my favourite indie surprises of 2019. Its ever-morphing and vastly expansive setting of the Black Hills Forrest always evokes chills and I like how the ‘found footage’ trope that defined the 1999 movie was used here in inventive ways during puzzle sequences. I did, however, find myself getting lost far too frequently and the forced moments of stealth were really a test of my patience during the final elongated chapter. That said, Blair Witch is not one that should be missed horror fans, even for those unfamiliar with the movie or Bloober Team’s previous work.

This is a licensed game done right. It doesn’t rely on cheap jumpscares and instead takes you on a journey inside the soul of a very broken detective.

The game adaptation of the 20-year-old “found footage” phenomenon could have turned out very badly. But thanks to previous experiences of Bloober Team, the finished product is more than a pleasant surprise. The game has its issues, especially in graphic design or in the puzzle section, but the result is excellent.

Blair Witch is, undoubtedly, a very good horror with an enjoyable, albeit a little predictable story, great atmosphere and more involving gameplay, which all take full advantage of the license. Despite some issues here and there, like the excessive linearity, little replay value and technical issues, the game is definitely among the best titles created by Bloober Team. Recommended to all horror games fans.

Blair Witch is a powerful psychological horror, far from perfect but full of memorable scenes.

Before setting on an adventure in the woods together with my dog, I didn’t really understand the link between this game and Blair Witch, the movie it is based on. However, it didn’t take long for me to understand that this inspiration source is exactly what makes this a unique horror game. Overcoming this bewitched forest together with your partner results in a stellar gameplay experience. However, the horror tropes are used a bit too often.

An interesting experience that mixes investigation, puzzles and chasing scenes with jumpscares. The forest and the oppressing atmosphere are really well handled, and we really liked the end of the game, that unfortunately, concludes an intense, yet short and sometimes too conventionnal, story.

Bloober Team definitely know their onions. Blair Witch introduces some minor tweaks to a tried and well-known formula, but there's no trace of true revolution. This horror is fun and scary, but there's also much room for improvement. It's a solid game that makes the future really exciting for the team and their fans.

Blair Witch is a creepy, tense expansion on the mythos established by the films and while it does capture the general aesthetic of the movie does stumble in trying to replicate that which made the franchise so well-regarded to this day.

Undoubtedly the best thing to happen to the Blair Witch since the 1999 film.

The Blair Witch Project fans and horror game fans alike will find lots to enjoy here. The roughly five-hour campaign can be completed in a few sittings, and with four different endings, there’s lots to come back for. It isn’t always great, but when it hits the mark its a ton of fun. A weak second act keeps it from being a home run, but it’s worth battling through just to play that final sequence. At times, Blair Witch genuinely had me feeling like I was playing through the movie, and as a fan, isn’t that all I can ask for?

It gets really scary towards the end of the game, when the madness slowly takes over.

Blair Witch tries to do its job but can’t keep the player's attention highly enough throughout the entire experience. Despite that, Bloober Team put some interesting new mechanics on the plate, but the inspiration seems to get lost at the same rhythm with which Ellis's past tries to emerge.
