Blind Fate: Edo no Yami in my opinion lives on lights and shadows: on the one hand it boasts fabulous ideas, honestly well recreated and described, especially in the advanced stages where the narrative also acquires a good level of maturity in the themes exposed, but to make the whole thing decay we think the stages of combat. Too bad, because Troglobytes Games has all the right cards to shine.

Blind Fate: Edo no Yami has unique gameplay elements with a great story and voice acting but is incredibly difficult due to hit-detection issues and repetitive actions during your playthrough.

Blind Fate: Edo no Yami does not fully exploit its full potential, resulting in an experience that cannot move from the starting line.

Blind Fate is a game with great ideas but doesn't live up to them. The combat system is a lot of fun, but the title does everything it can to not let it shine. Outside of the combat, you're left with a predictable story, dull levels, and a boatload of QTEs. I can see a sequel that polishes up some of the mechanics that feel half-baked, but at the end of the day, Blind Fate doesn't really do anything that stands out.

Blind Fate: Edo No Yami finds its strength in some intriguing ideas, but it lacks balance and doesn't fully deliver what it tries to do.

Blind Fate: Edo no Yami stems from an intriguing concept that reworks mythology and folklore of feudal Japan to transport them into a dystopian future populated by bloodthirsty machines. Its blind protagonist is a truly remarkable gimmick, especially once placed in such a context. That said, in the field of game design there are too many problems overlapping one another, starting from the cumbersome controls and the perceptible input lag, up to an imperfect management of the checkpoints and the absence of explanations on the very functioning of fundamental mechanics. It's really a shame, because the art direction is certainly as good as the soundtrack.

Blind Fate shows potential for this rather new dev team. They nailed multiple parts of what it takes to be great, with the writing being solid and the voice acting being fantastic. It looks good but feels terrible to play, only getting to almost decent after many hours. It can feel wildly unfair but there is still just enough there that it may be worth checking out if you can find it at a decent price. It may not be the best Samurai game, but it’s got spirit.

Some original ideas, a gripping setting - but also a very poor experience from a gameplay standpoint. Especially the combat fails at almost every level.

Blind Fate is a game of interesting ideas, both in setting and in gameplay. There is a sense that the developers held back in far too many areas for fear of overwhelming the player, and it’s detrimental at every step. Watching it in motion is pleasing enough, but rote gameplay and a completely unremarkable story really hamstrung a game that could have ended up being something special.
