The developers have done their due diligence when it comes to researching historical aspects of the D-Day invasion. Every detail was thought out and then presented in a realistic manner. The troops and their large inventory of equipment and weapons are realistic and true to form for a game based on history. The cut scenes and commentary serve to further the narrative about individual solders serving behind enemy lines with their quest to free the world from Nazi dominance. Developer Absolutely Games stated that their ambition concerning Classified: France '44 was to tell an authentic story about these soldiers and I think they did a fine job of it. Replayability is high with the inclusion of a mission creator and modding tools which will ensure a lot of available player-created content.

Classified: France '44 delivers a good mix of turn-based tactics, strategic choices, and personnel management. The narrative is familiar, but the characters are well-drawn and there are some touching moments around the campfire. Both the stealth and the morale-centered battles are tense and reward careful planning and good use of weapons and abilities. The strategy layer is the weakest part of the game, and I would have liked extra options to interact with the three Resistance factions. Maybe players should not be in charge of what their commandos wear. But these are minor issues and Classified: France '44 is a great game for anyone who likes killing Nazis using stealth and superior firepower in a variety of scenarios.

In the case of Classified, we are not talking about a brilliant, innovative concept of the genre of turn-based strategies, but rather about a solid use of already used and well-known mechanics and tools. Overall, the word "solid" describes the game perfectly.

XCOM Light in World War 2: fast, compact turn-based battles on small maps, with challenging secondary objectives and a solid campaign framework.

Classified: France ’44 is rather good as both a turn-based combat experience and an exploration of one of history’s darkest periods. Whether you are sneaking around taking down Nazis from the shadows or heading in guns blazing, the game is fun and decently complex, with enough variety in terms of units to recruit and factions to side with to encourage multiple playthroughs. While the missions themselves start to blend together after a while, and the soundtrack could have stood to throw in one or two new battle themes for the sake of variety, I think any fan of history or turn-based combat is going to have a rather good time with Classified: France ’44, and I look forward to Absolutely Games hopefully building on this foundation with future games exploring different periods and settings.

Classified: France '44 is a strong debut from Absolutely Games that's worth a go if you're looking for hours of well-designed turn-based combat, varied missions and encounters, and a highly replayable campaign. However, it doesn't quite hit the potato masher on the head when it comes to exploring its WWII setting and creating a narrative about the human cost of war.

Although it has a little too much XCOM influences, we have a turn-based strategy in our hands that gives a good World War II atmosphere. It has some shortcomings in some points, but this does not change the fact that Classified France '44 is a good game. Anyone who likes XCOM will find something to enjoy.

A not particularly groundbreaking but enjoyable World War II iteration of the old template. Classified may occasionally feel a bit cheap and outdated, but it manages to surprise with solid gameplay, a few good ideas, and a likable albeit somewhat incomplete emphasis on stealth.

Classified: France ’44 is a fairly average experience. While it has some unique takes on classic mechanics, the game is overall pretty cookie-cutter of the genre. On top of this, it fails to really excite with its presentation, with ugly models and poor audio design. Fans of WWII history and die-hard turn-based strategy players should still have fun with this title, but it won’t blow anyone away.
