Immensely playable...Easily the most enjoyable first-person shooter available for the PS2.

The option to use realistic damage will reward all that time spent in the single-player game nailing head shots too. Those of you with a Multitap will have great fun here.

The unique features this game has, like the spectacular physics and item creation system, push it past the run-of-the-mill shooters into a category just under the truly elite.

Sure, the story is hackneyed to the point of being a rip-off of just about every spy movie from the past ten years, but the script is great, the acting is better, and the gameplay just can’t be beat.

While visually lacking, this shortcoming never manages to detract from the game's single or mutiplayer offerings. Cold Winter is an altogether solid package.

This unpretentious disc was cobbled together by a self-proclaimed "garage team" in the U.K., and is well worth your hard-earned quid.

The fact is, Cold Winter repeatedly enables the player to do things you just wouldn't expect to be able to do. Big guns even break crates more easily than small guns; such is the developer's level of consideration.

With the exception of a small item collection scheme which allows players to build their own grenades, Cold Winter offers nothing distinctly new to the FPS market. Instead, what it brings is excellent design, good storytelling, and eight to ten hours of entertaining violence to a console that's never had it so good.

It's not "Halo," but PS2 owners finally have an exclusive FPS that is worth bragging about.

Cold Winter is the type of game you would take home to meet your mother, not too flashy but nothing to be embarrassed about either...just a good time.
