Crossing Souls may still be a game I revisit when I need to be comforted by the sheer joy of its characters, world, references, and music. Fourattic clearly loves the era as much as many of us do, and it shows. For all its references, the callbacks to different pop culture events never feel forced. Crossing Souls is a helluva fun ride, and a game I’d strongly recommend to anyone with a love of He-Man, coin-op arcades, and bitchin’ synth tunes.

Crossing Souls is a delightfully nostalgic romp, balancing original content and nods to the past. Featuring diverse gameplay levels which touch on most every aspect of 80's retro gaming, enough challenge to be rewarding, and a surprisingly touching story, this is a must have for anyone who grew up shouting "Goonies never say die!"

Crossing Souls is a "feel good game" for anyone who grew up during the eighties.

While it may leave you wanting more in certain areas, Crossing Souls is still an excellent action game with a terrific, gripping story you’ll want to see to the very end. This little chunk of the 1980s is filled with terrific, nicely-detailed visuals, fun character-switching gameplay, and a unique vision of the afterlife with several impressive touches.

Crossing Souls is a little scrappy, rough around the edges. But at its core it tells a great story. An adventure filled with twists and turns and well-earned moments of introspection and emotion. The fact that it nails this part of its inspiration, that being the Spielberg-like vision of the 1980s, make it a success. Adventure, action, and friendship drive the experience, which make its short comings far less visible than its bedrooms filled with posters for films like Ghostbusters. In the end we love that Crossing Souls isn’t merely a compendium of references to things like Back to the Future and Poltergeist. There’s definite substance below the shiny neon ‘80s surface.

Crossing Souls is a good adventure game inspired in the best films and video games of 80'. It's funny, clever and beautiful, but is missing more puzzles, a better combat system and more original story.

If you dream of having a bedroom with Michael Jackson and Ghostbusters posters, with a cathode ray television inside and '80s atmosphere all over, Crossing Souls is the game you were waiting for.

Crossing Souls is an excellent, albeit clunky, nostalgia trip.

Crossing Souls is a love letter to the '80s. It's an excellent, albeit clunky, nostalgia rollercoaster.

Crossing Souls does so many things right. Sure, the story and the dialogue are a bit dull, but the game is fun to play, and had me wanting to move through to the completion of the tale. The mini-games are also fun and none of them feel as if they’ve been added as filler, but flow through nicely into the main game. The cartoon cut-scenes and the nods to 80’s pop-culture add further nostalgia to the pixelated visuals and digitised audio. For some nostalgic fun, don’t let Crossing Souls slip by.

Crossing Souls blends the platforming, beat’em up and RPG genres and takes you back to the 80s with its colorful pixel-art graphics and classic gameplay. And while there are some gameplay issues that specially affect the combat system, it is still a very good experience that will keep you occupied for a very long time.

Crossing Souls is a charming adventure trip into the 80s. But the mix of mechanics is too rough around the edges. It has a decent amount of references to movies and games though that might keep you entertained where the gameplay doesn’t.

Crossing Souls is a fun nostalgic walk through the 80s, but it lacks its own personality.

Crossing Souls is a tribute to an entire era and for this reason only some players will adore Fourattic's work. It has plenty of clever references and a wonderful pixel art but the plot fall flat too many times and the gameplay doesn't shine despite a lot of variety. Nostalgic players will love this game; the others not so much.

Fans of genre classics from Spielberg and Zemeckis should play Crossing Souls for that elusive magical feeling of a Hollywood fairytale, for its great 80s style soundtrack, for genuinely funny moments, and even for its thrilling, albeit naive drama… But be warned: this nostalgia trip will be bumpy as hell.

If you like the 80s culture, you will find an interactive tribute to it here. As a game, though, it works, although it doesn't do anything outstanding.

Flat writing and a confused plot fail to deliver on some promising ideas.
