Cult of the Lamb constructed a replica of the temple of the Lamb and officiated at two real weddings in PAX Australia

Cult of the Lamb, an indie cult simulator, was on display at PAX Australia from October 11 to October 13. Devolver Digital, Massive Monster and other teams decided to do something different. Instead of having a booth where anyone could play and experience what it was like to be a leader, they built an 8-meter replica of the temple in the game, where the lamb delivers daily sermons and performs rituals. Two couples were married there on Sunday. Instead, a replica of the temple in the game where the lamb gives daily sermons and performs rites was built. Two couples were married there on Sunday.

The official Cult X Twitter account asked in April if any of its followers would be willing get married at this event. The response was overwhelming. According to the Cult of the Lamb, the tweet received hundreds of requests from couples who wanted to get married at the temple. However, only two couples were selected. When I first saw the Tweet, the thought of applying crossed my mind. However, after seeing the cost of flights alone to Australia, it dawned on my that it would be cheaper to start my own temple and cult.

Wedding photographers were hired to capture the moments of both ceremonies. The ceremonies lasted only one day and not the entire weekend. The temple was open to all attendees, so they could visit it without having a wedding taking place. The weddings were open to the public, so anyone could come and see the couples join in holy baatrimony.

On Friday and Saturday the temple was open to the public so that they could 'praise lamb'. On Sunday, however, the temple was transformed into a wedding church with pews and an aisle. Two couples performed real, legally binding wedding ceremonies. Also in front of the whole event. So many people. Let that sink in. Jasper and Tanner took their ceremony to the next level by wearing fursuits. The photos shared on X show that the second couple opted for a more formal dress. A lamb mascot with a flower crown made an appearance during the ceremonies.

According to tweets, the ceremonies were quite humorous. It's not everyday that you see full-blown marriages in a temple filled with cultists. However, the attendees' reaction was quite emotional. The Cult Of the Lamb X shared a thread with photos taken by official wedding photographers. The caption read "Crying All Day Yesterday" and several people said that there was not a dry eye among the audience.

Hope Corrigan, a PC Gamer writer, had the honor of attending one of these ceremonies. ''As an audience member who was suddenly recruited and cloaked in a robe, this was the most bizarre but beautiful experience I've ever had at a convention. I didn't think that I would go from looking at PCs on the PAX Aus floor to filling pews in a real-life wedding.

"Aside from the few, fun Cult of the Lamb Moments just before the wedding ceremony, the rest of the Ceremony was all about the Couple. The celebrant's entire speech was tailored to the couple, with heartfelt jokes and anecdotes. Nothing felt rushed or unwanted. The couple read their own vows, through tears of genuine joy. They included their love for video games. But that was the usual amount of video game-related information I would expect from someone who wants to get married.

"During the vows the hole where my itch should be, or something." I looked at Devolver boss Graeme Struthers who was beside me and was visibly crying along with the rest of the audience.

The temple was also the venue for a rave to celebrate the wedding. River Boy, the composer of the Cult of the Lamb sound track, DJed the celebration and remixed the music with hypnotic images and flashing words such as "Praise", "Lamb", and "Lamb", on large screens, to really focus on the subliminal message. If you weren't familiar with the game and stumbled across this at PAX Aus I can definitely see this causing some serious confusion--especially among parents, who probably had to answer quite a few questions on the ride home. Cult of the Lamb is a game that's committed to its mission.

Cult of the Lamb, since its launch in 2022, has built a cult of it's own. From hilarious social media campaigns to cult gatherings held at other raves and events. Even though I'm a little jealous that I won’t be getting married in the Lamb's Temple after devoted a embarrassing amount of my time to my cult I am elated that the two couples who did get to live my dream and I cannot wait to see what crazy trick is pulled next.
