After the success of Cyberpunk Edgerunners, CD Projekt's CEO confirms that the developer will 'definitely plan to do more animation'

Michal Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red (CDPR), confirmed in a recent earnings conference that the team is looking at more animation projects within the Cyberpunk world. This is largely due to the overwhelming success Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Nowakowski (via Gizmodo) says that "[the developer] definitely plans to do more animation." "Expect more for sure, but right now that's all I can say." Although this isn't much to go on, it's great to hear that CDPR has been thinking about how they can approach more animation.

The discussion was mainly focused on two upcoming projects: The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 - both codenamed Orion. These two massive projects are taking up a great deal of attention and resources. Nowakowski stated in an investor's meeting that he hoped to have half of the development team working on Cyberpunk 2 from the US and Poland by the end of 2024.

A new animated show probably won't take too much time, as CDPR will most likely supervise any project undertaken. Studio Trigger handled the majority of the storyboarding and animation for Edgerunners. It makes sense that The Witcher 4 & Cyberpunk 2 are the top priority.

Edgerunners was released around the time of a major Cyberpunk update. This was a great way to convince players to give this once-messy, clunky game a second chance. If CDPR is working on another tear-jerking animation, it will likely keep it cooking until the time comes to release it.

Piort Nielubowicz, the chief financial officer of CDPR, said that the anime was so successful that it helped CDPR achieve "the best third-quarter in our history." "With consolidated revenue at zl246 millions ($54.3million), mainly due to strong sales of Cyberpunk. The group reported a net profit of zl99 millions ($21.8million).

This is not a big surprise. I have watched the 10-episode series several times, despite its heartbreaking end. If the goal of this anime was showcasing all the reasons that Night City is one of the coolest settings in videogames, then it succeeded.
