Cyberpunk 2077 is finally available on MacBooks!

Can I tell a dirty little secret to you? My M1 MacBook Air was probably the best gaming computer I've owned. Don't get me incorrect, it's not the best gaming laptop I've ever owned. The most recent game that it can reliably play is probably around half a decade ago. But for someone who wants to mostly just play golden oldies - KotOR, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 and Planescape - this thing is a dream.

I would never considerplaying something new on it. It would be some kind of gleaming graphical display that could make my RTX4080 sweat. Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Mac early next year, according to reports.

Congratulations to those who waited for this. The port will include the CP2077 core game and its excellent Phantom Liberty expansion. Both have been ported in order to "take full advantage of Apple's silicon and advanced Metal technologies." Apple's Metal graphics is what's being used, not an announcement that CDPR has entered the Bronze Age.

Hey, I make fun of myself, but why not. Cyberpunk is a great game, one of the top 100 games according to some. Being able play it in other places is a good thing. Plus, I'm curious to see how well it runs on Apple chips. We recently noted that Cupertino’s new M4 Pro chips would make a stonking portable gaming PC. If Tim Apple decides to dip his $3 billion company's toe deeper into those waters, perhaps making that very unlikely scenario slightly less very unlikely. I say go ahead.

Apple is slowly getting into the habit of doing this. Apple, the second most valuable company in the entire world, has been splurging money on deals after realizing that videogames are a thing. It is trying to find a use for those impressive and powerful Arm processors. Hideo Kojima was brought out to announce at the WWDC last year that Apple's hardware could finally render Norman Reedus. You can now play Resident Evil 8 for some reason on your iPhone. Cyberpunk on Apple Silicon. It's a brave, new world. My MacBook may soon be the best gaming computer I've had, and not just for RPGs from 2003.
