Dave the Diver creator jokes that'story DLC is coming' and says new games will expand into a "Dave Cinematic Universe".

Mintrocket's and Nexon's Dave the Diver was one of the best surprises last year. It's a charming and funny adventure where you alternate between being a deep sea explorer and a sushi cook. The game was a big hit with both critics and players. It scored an impressive 91% in our review. Chris Livingston said, "I'm regularly up until 2 am playing it, even after 30 hour, it's still bringing me fun and creative systems, and every time i play, I'm delighted and charmed."

Jaeho Hahn, the director and creator of the game, was appointed CEO of Mintrocket after the commercial success of the game. Nexon also decided to spin off the studio as an independent division. Hwang said Mintrocket's new independence would allow it to focus more on game development--specifically the Dave the Diver IP--rather than pitching ideas and business plans to its parent.

Hwang said at Gamescom Asia that he wanted to expand the Dave the Diver IP. "I believe this is every director's goal, because we have such a relatable hero. We didn't really go into the personal stories of Dave the Diver because we wanted the game to be casual.

"As a director, aside from the story DLC we're currently working on, I also want separate games about each of the characters to show how they met and what they did before they came to the Blue Hole."

Hwang makes a joke about a "Dave film universe". The game's appeal is the diverse cast of characters that surround Dave's business. Hwang believes that if they start exploring the world around Dave then "the genres of the games can be different."

It turns out that Dave The Diver is a part of a larger universe. Hwang says that Cobra, one of the main characters in the movie, is a character from his previous project, Evil Factory. "He was a arms dealer whose license was revoked. After that, he retired, enjoyed his life and then something happened and he decided he wanted to come into the Blue Hole. So I want to tell stories like this in other games.

Hwang says that even if Mintrocket expands to publishing or other projects the size of each team working on it will remain relatively small. "I think the twenty to thirty people team is the concept."

Dave the Diver received a Godzilla-themed DLC as well as tie ins with Dredge and Balatro. Geralt is now included. The DLCs released so far have been minigames and specials, which is why the news of a DLC that focuses on the story is much appreciated. Mintrocket could make a game about finding catfood for Momo and Mochi. Then they can take my money.
