Bethesda, Amazon and Fallout 2 are moving forward: Filming begins next year
I'm still processing that the Fallout TV series was good. It was not even good. It was great. And all this despite the fact that Bethesda’s wacky Wasteland vision is something I'm getting tired of.
Of course, I'm not the only one who thinks that way. The show was a hit when it first aired in April. It currently has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's no wonder that Amazon and Bethesda are making the most of the sunny weather: Season 2 filming begins next month.
Fallout's 2nd season was greenlit just a week after it premiered on Prime. According to a Screen Rant interview with Leslie Uggams, who plays Vault 33 Overseer Betty Pearson following Kyle MacLachlan's disappearance, they're already getting started. She told Screen Rant that they would begin shooting in November. "I'm very excited about it."
It's a much quicker turnaround than the first series, of course. It took two years for the first season to begin filming, after it was announced in July 2020. But it's easier to get everything in order to shoot a television series when you have props and a cast.
Don't expect a release date to be announced any time soon. It's true that the shooting is quick, but we are living in a time when shows take long breaks (hiatii?) As a matter-of-course. Think of shows such as House of the Dragon which began airing in 2022 and then took a break from 2023 to return with a strangely shortened series in this year. (Writers' strikes, admittedly not surprisingly, did not help in particular). Even Fallout took two years after filming began in 2022 to reach our screens.
Just don't book any time off in 2025 yet. What will Fallout season 2 be about? According to the writers' comments (and the events that occurred at the end the first season), New Vegas is likely to make an appearance. This will give us New Vegas fans a new opportunity for conspiracy theories about Bethesda's hatred of that game. Uggams has also said that her character will have "some surprises up her sleeve," which means we can expect to see more Vault 33 antics. What else is there? My forecast is changing rapidly.
