Deltarune Chapter 3 nears completion, set to launch with Chapter 4, announces developer Toby Fox

A sweet surprise for fans.

Deltarune, the spiritual successor to the wildly popular indie game Undertale, has almost finished development on its third chapter, according to a recent Halloween update on the game's official newsletter. The post includes endearing details, like a visit from a certain white fluffy canine. The most exciting news, however, is that Chapter 3 is "essentially content complete". The creator of both games, Toby Fox, enthusiastically adds: "Hurrah!"

"Of course, launching a game involves many more steps than just finalizing gameplay and graphics. However, team members are already shifting focus to Chapter 4. Everyone is thrilled to dive into the next segment!"

While Chapter 3 won't be released as a free standalone like its predecessors, Fox also revealed that players could expect to experience it earlier than anticipated. "Initially, I planned to release Chapters 3, 4, and 5 together. However, Chapter 5's completion is still quite distant... and I don't think anyone wants to wait that long for new content. Especially not me."

Instead, once Chapter 4 is finished, the game will become available for purchase. Chapter 5 is still in the pipeline, but you'll have the opportunity to enjoy Chapters 3 and 4 much sooner. This news comes as a relief to those eager to return to Deltarune's enchanting world, considering the second chapter was released on September 17, 2021.

The development of Chapter 4 is likely to progress more swiftly, as Fox mentions, "I've brought on a new producer whose sole responsibility will be to accelerate overall game development for future chapters. So, I'm very optimistic about the project's next phases."
