Desperados 2: Cooper's Revenge Critic Reviews

Desperados 2: Cooper’s Revenge continues on its predecessor’s path. The gameplay, graphics and characters are great. Add to that the Morricone-like music and you have a Wild West addict’s dream. Still, the game falls short of masterpiece status, because of too much frustrating sneaking, some graphics bugs and the occasionally stupid AI.

A genuine evolution in a series packed with charm and character. Yee Haw!

If D2 came with a level-skip cheat printed in the manual, it would be a lot easier to recommend.

The clumsy control scheme and passive AI are the two biggest frustrations we had with the sequel and while they weren't enough to completely kill the magic of the setting, they came damn close.

So drink some Tequila at the bar and have a think about whether a slow-paced tactical squad RTS set in the Wild West is really for you.

Desperados 2 looks a bit dated, and the AI is basic 'search if you're heard, attack if you're seen.' However, it's still enjoyable - and with the effort comes a grumbling sense of achievement.

If someone will ever be able to re-establish this kind of games, to make them deliver the kind of fun I’ve had with all the games that preceded Desperados 2, then I’ll clearly admit it and promote it. Until then, all I can tell you is to stay away from this game.

Despite some attractive visuals, Desperados 2 is burdened by lame artificial intelligence and some very frustrating missions.

Confusing, often nonsensical execution, and a bit slow on the draw.

What scuppers a lot of the enjoyment here is the flakey artificial intelligence of the enemies and the sheer willpower needed to persist through many of the technical glitches.

The game is so cliché ridden that it is not even funny like Doc’s snarl and eye patch or the theme music you have heard in about every western on TV or at the movies.

While the basic mechanic shows promise, the game itself is purely mechanical, and predictably joyless as a result.

Without a sound tactical game, Desperados 2 is only fun so long as you enjoy trying to guess what the hell the developers were thinking.
