Destiny 2’s next act will include Street Fighter 6 cosmetics, and a 300% boost to roaming supers
Bungie revealed Act II of Revenant's episode earlier today. The episode begins on Tuesday, 19 November. As expected, the update includes a reprised version Prison Of Elders, which is now more roguelike. Think The Coil or Riven's Lair, if you've ever played those. A new mechanic allows fireteams with a high level of skill to skip certain sections, but they will face more difficult enemies as a result. Teams that are struggling will have to endure a longer grind but face less punishing enemies. I'm certain that this won't cause any toxicity among LFG teams.
The new mode is called Tomb of the Elders, reflecting the fact that the prison has been abandoned. It looks promising. The old enemy races have been replaced with new ones: Shadow Legion Cabal (formerly Revenant Scorn), Lucent Hive, and The Dread. The encounters consist of a mixture of dense enemy combat and short traversal segments. Each arena has a different challenge. In one example, shown on stream the room was filled with poison gas that needed to be turned off. You'll also encounter some of the new negative mods that have appeared in Strikes, including 'Counterfeit,' where ammo blocks will sometimes explode and everyone hates.
The loot is my only concern with Tomb of the Elders. Bungie promised an exciting treasure room at the conclusion of the activity but did not show it live. The only new weapons that were mentioned were an SMG, a shotgun, and a reprised version Gridskipper pulse gun. Tomb of the Elders will struggle if it only has the seasonal gear and more copies of it, no matter how fun it is. Onslaught's current version is a good game, but it doesn't seem worth the time invested. You can earn the same weapons by drinking a tonic or doing anything else.
The livestream also revealed other changes that will be part of Act II. A Street Fighter VI tie in will include emotes (including Spinning Bird Kick, Hadouken) and a Blanka Helmet ornament that any guardian class can wear, similar to the Tiger helmet ornament we got during the 30th Anniversary. Bungie also has a doki-doki themed armor set for each class. Personal, I think the Halloween wizard's costume is as outrageous as I am willing to go. But I do support your fashion choices. Below you can see some of this gear, thanks to a datamine that JpDeathBlade posted on X.
The other news that stood out was the fact that the mid-season patch, which will also be launching next week, will include a major boost to 'roaming supers'. Roaming supers include Stormcaller, Fists of Havoc and other supers that allow you to run around and do multiple instances of damage. This is different from the 'one-and-done' nukes like Nova Bomb and Thundercrash. Bungie's buff is aimed at increasing the uptime, not their damage, of roaming supers. After the patch, roaming supers will charge at a speed of three times. This should make players more comfortable using their supers whenever they're off cooldown rather than waiting until a boss fight.
That's a really elegant solution that I've never seen before. This is one of the many reasons that neither I nor most Redditors work as game developers. It would have been counterproductive to try to buff roaming supers in order to compete with their one and done siblings on raw damage. It will be interesting to watch if changes are made to their damage resistence. Song of Flame, which is arguably one of the best roaming supers, currently has a DR of 90%. Older options may struggle unless they get the same survivability.
