Though in general a direct Dynasty Warriors clone, Devil Kings does try to take this familiar play style and make it something different, though it sacrifices the things that made Dynasty Warriors so popular amongst PlayStation 2 owners.

"Dynasty Warriors" is an excellent series, but Devil Kings is just downright exciting to play, and there's something about being able to remember the names of the characters that's nice too.

There is plenty to like about Devil Kings, the presentation is top notch and the combo system really does have you trying to chain up the hits.

Although the game borrows liberally from its contemporaries, Devil Kings manages to have fun with the formula by removing any sense of pretension or seriousness, leaving a game that's a lot of fun to play.

Devil Kings is a beat-em up romp of wanton destruction more than anything else, and it's a very good one.

Congratulations to Capcom for creating something fun and exciting. The bottom line is that this game is worthy of your attention.

This isn't just a clone of Koei's slash-'em-ups, but a game that actually improves upon them in several ways.

A "Dynasty Warriors" clone. It's also the best one I've played in years -- and I've played them all. If you have any type of interest in these kinds of titles, and consider imitation the highest form of flattery, check out Capcom's take on the genre.

Just mindless combat that amounts to little more pressing the attack buttons over and over from beginning to end.

You'd be excused for taking this as a Dynasty Warriors clone, but Capcom's free-form fighter provides a solid controls and decent if unspectacular gaming experience.

Despite dodgy localisation issues - which actually serve to limit the game’s appeal - Devil Kings remains an entertaining battlefield game that marries its wild, over the top style with enough substance to keep you plugging away.

Devil Kings isn’t a bad game it’s just a game that doesn’t offer anything new and exciting that we have played before in another game.

It's "Dynasty Warriors" for those who find "Dynasty Warriors" too complex. Without these elements though, the gameplay is left lacking.

Going after Koei this aggressively certainly proves that Capcom has celestial-sized gonads.

Unfortunately, it feels a bit dull after performing your 50th 200-hit combo.

It's also easy to die in the space of seconds, losing a half-hour's progress in one vein-throbbing instant.

Despite some superficial changes, which add a certain Capcom-esque feel to the game, Devil Kings remains extremely similar in terms of gameplay experience to Koei's Chinese dynastical franchise. In such a case, if you're a fan of Dynasty Warriors then it's more than likely that you'll enjoy Devil Kings but if not, it's hard to believe that the game will stand out to you.

But good sound isn’t going to save the game. There’s wasted potential here in Devil Kings, perhaps a sequel could bring that out. As it stands it is a flawed game thanks to repetition and some technical issues.

Players really have the feeling of being in the midst of a huge conflict. But the lack of multiplayer options is baffling and the difficulty can quickly lurch between effortless and frustratingly tough.
