We have loved Dice Legacy for its original concept and for how it performed in game. We did not expect it to work so well, given the conditions, but we are happy to have been proven wrong.

Overall, Dice Legacy is a fun stress machine that borrows the better parts of other genres. While it doesn’t always do everything well or necessarily telegraph its harder ideas ahead of time, it can be a tense thrill when you get further than you have before. Never before have dice been featured in a game where they’re the biggest thing that matters. If you like rolling dice then I compel you to check out this mash up. Just be ready for the challenge ahead of you.

Dice Legacy is a new, solid chapter in the history of survival RTS. It is very original and combines the gameplay of a city builder with the use of dices and a ring-world setting. If you are looking for an RTS with a good dose of challenge and mystery, this one is for you.

Dice Legacy is a competent strategy/survival game with some neat and well-implemented ideas; the random element is there, but generally easy to handle, and good planning trumps sheer luck. However, it isn’t particularly rich in content, and it might get grindy if you’re aiming for the hardest difficulties.

Overall, Dice Legacy is enjoyable as long as you enjoy a challenge. It has an unusual mix of gameplay that sets it apart from other games of this type. While the dice and some of your decisions add a random element to the game, it feels like Dice Legacy does have an idea of how it wants you to play the game. You don’t necessarily have the freedom to try a variety of strategies, if you want to succeed, that is. Perhaps that’s what makes it more of a survival game and less of a strategy game.

Dice Legacy is a cute quirky game. The basic mechanics, founded on randomness and dices, are just that, a quirk: the gameplay is, in the end, not that innovative, but the strategical experience is solid and makes for a good, if light on content, city builder-roguelike game.

Dice Legacy has some very good ideas, as well as an innovative gameplay based on dices, without knocking you out with questions of probability and risk calculation. But without being too complex, this game turns out to be very demanding, and it will even challenge city builder regulars, since it requires to manage many tasks and problems in real time, leaving little room for error. Finally, the fact that its lifespan is based only on more difficult variants of the same story may quickly tire players, since it does not offer other maps, nor varied scenarios, nor easy access to the dices from previous games.

Dice Legcay has a surprising concept and offers a tense and pleasant management experience, which during your first steps could put your nerves to the test. However, once the mechanics are assimilated, the progression is done in a fairly natural way, but does not manage to engage the player over time, Dice Legacy struggling to renew itself and contenting itself with offering constrained variants on the same card. , that only the most sensitive to the approach of the game will want to explore from cover to cover. There is nonetheless a game complete in its mechanics, quite original and enjoyable, which would however have gained by seeking more to renew itself.

At first, Dice Legacy was able to convince me with its look. Even if the first rounds went rather suboptimally and frustration quickly arose, I gave the game more time. Lo and behold, after a while you understand the individual mechanics and appreciate them. But the countless waves of opponents later in the game bothered me immensely. You always have to have a soldier's die ready to fend off them. It feels like the next wave comes after every defense. I would be happy about a patch that increases the time between waves.

A smart, peculiar city builder that ends in a gruelling uphill battle against a rival city.

In the end, Legacy is an odd little title which might end up disappointing both fan of RTS and those looking for something more casual, since it sits right in the middle of these two flavors. That said, I do recommend it to those not afraid to try something a little outside of their comfort zone.

The idea behind Dice Legacy is great, however the developers focused on unnecessary elements and, as a result, created an engaging city builder but a poor roguelike.

Dice Legacy is an interesting take on city builders, but not every aspect of the game falls into place.

Dice Legacy can only partially convert its innovative concepts into an

Dice Legacy's gameplay sure is original, but you kind of tired quickly of intensive dice throwing. Also it lacks content to help us stick to its universe and challenges. Feels a bit like a two players boardgame played solo.

Dice Legacy is just too shallow and too reminiscent of other, better games. It's just far too simplistic to have any kind of real replayability, and since your first playthrough will be done in four or five hours at most, that leaves little to play for. Sure, the game does try to extend its replay value by offering different starting conditions and rule restrictions to try to get you to play it again, but it's the same meta every time with no real variation. There's no shortage of good roguelikes out there. Crack those open instead. You'll have a lot more fun that way.

I'm sure I could do things more efficiently. The forge in particular seems vital. This is a building that smushes two villagers together to create a special hybrid rollcube, potentially removing a lot of reroll inefficiency and condensing two roles. With certain limitations, you can even keep them for use in later playthroughs. Dice Legacy encourages experimentation, it says in its opening screen, and I appreciate a game suggesting an ethos like this upfront. But though after many failures and one victory I'm armed with more knowledge and several theories on how to play it better, the prospect of going through all this again is the kind of legacy that makes me glad I don't have kids.

One of the most refreshing strategy / city builder simulators that have been released during the present year.
