Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation might not be as flashy or intricate as Dragon Quest IX was, but that certainly doesn't keep the game from being every bit as charming and engaging.

Releasing it after the more advanced Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies may not have been the wisest of moves, as fans of the latest entry in the series might not stand for the more retro look of Dragon Quest VI. However, those ready to look past that are certain to find a compelling and well-developed story by the series' standards, and lots of fun moments, all packed into one of the best RPG experiences to grace the now aging Nintendo DS.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie wraps up the 'Nintendo DS remake trilogy' by being the best one yet. Absolutely anyone will enjoy this top-quality role-playing game, so go and experience this 'proper' Japanese RPG for yourself.

Surprisingly, I found myself enjoying DQ VI more than its technically superior descendant. Maybe it's easier to forgive dusty design choices knowing that this was originally a 16-bit game, or maybe it's because DQ VI embraces the mile-a-minute imagination and sense of adventure that made me fall in love with RPGs as a kid.

The DS has been good to RPG fans over the years, so it's somewhat poetic that Dragon Quest VI sees the system off into the sunset. It's a game that lets veterans reminisce over days gone by, while allowing newcomers to revel in a golden era they may have otherwise never known.

If you've already finished the previous games and are hankering for more Dragon Quest, there's a lot to like here. The characters are funny, the translation is top-notch, and the combat system easy to learn.

DQIX is tighter, but this is still an epic 40-plus hours of classic RPG gaming.

Dragon Quest VI is exactly what it promised to be: a return to the classic JRPG, one of the best of its genre, which remains faithful to the series' formula. It is its greatest charm, but also the greatest difficulty to attract new followers.

Realms of Revelation finishes the Zenithian trilogy nicely. While it is not as good as Sentinels of the Starry Skies or hand of the Heavenly Bride, it is a very entertaining and the dreamlike atmosphere captures the imagination.

Newcomers to the series might want to start their Dragon Quest experience with IV, V, or IX but for fans or those who are looking for more Zenethian adventures, Realms of Revelation is a lengthy addition to the DS's Dragon Quest lineup.

It's a great Dragon Quest experience, bestowed with a great combat system and a good lasting appeal. A better save system and some less combat could've made it perfect.

There really isn't anything to wrong with the game other than it feeling more old than old school on occasion.

It's not a bad game, but it's certainly not a friendly game -- something that you'd notice even if you weren't coming off of Dragon Quest IX, and something that is only exacerbated for those who are.

This classic RPG has finally come to North America and will keep fans of the series and newcomers happy and busy for some time as they travel the Realms of Revelation.

If you weren't swayed by its predecessors, then move along, but for everyone else, this is another standout entry in a series that stubbornly yet successfully stands by its trusted traditions that makes the series a continued classic across the world.
