An extremely entertaining product if you want to play it online, characterized by well designed factions. Just be aware that if you plan to play it in single player offline mode the lack of a campaign or story mode could severely impact interest and longevity.

In the end, Empires Apart is a very capable game, but it looks surprisingly like an Early Access title. It does feel a bit like Age of Empires, but its focus on multiplayer and lack of content may put a lot of people off. If you liked the gameplay provided by Age of Empires, you should definitely take a look at Empires Apart.

Empires Apart is both a good spiritual successor to Microsoft’s classic and a good game in its own right, delivering a very capable experience that successfully brings most of Age of Empires mechanics into the modern age. If you liked Ensemble’s iconic series then you should definitely take a look at this game.

Empires Apart is a good Age of Empires' clone in need of more content.

Despite some technical issues and a skimpy single player, Empires Apart is an enjoyable and well balanced old-style RTS. If you are in search of a competitive multiplayer game, look no further.

The guys of DESTINYbit, however, have managed to do a good job in terms of characterization of the six present civilizations, each endowed with unique peculiarities that deeply modify the style of play, making the challenge against other human opponents very pleasant.

Empires Apart is a solid old-school RTS with some innovations, with a focus on the multiplayer side.

An almost too accurate reimagination of Age of Empires, in both the best and worst possible ways.

Empires Apart moves in the classic schemes of the RTS, but the novelties it presents are scarce 25 years after Dune II established the keys of the genre, to which it remains excessively faithful. It looses in the individual mode, weighed down by a deficient AI and the absence of campaign and it is shown to be funny and innovative in the multiplayer, to which clearly it is oriented.

Solid clone of Age of Empires with technical mishaps, which barely offers single-player content, but varied factions and strategies in PvP.

Empires Apart is a more than competent real-time strategy game featuring solid mechanics and unique features. Sadly, the almost complete lack of single player content damages the experience a bit, making the game recommended, at the current price point, only to those who are willing to play online against other human opponents.

Empires Apart has a beautiful art style, and its music is immersive. Unfortunately, stupid AI ruined the game, and the poor level design even made it worse.

I’m fully aware that this game is multiplayer focused and the single player is more for practice and getting used to the game before playing human opponents, but the AI is terrible, and I would go as far to say laughably awful. If you are only looking to play single player avoid this game, at least for now, as you will be wasting your money.

This blend of the old with the new relies too heavily on the old, while the new stuff fails to thrive. In its current state it’s buggy and lacks some fundamental requirements for smooth play we’ve come to expect from the genre.
