Evidence: The Last Ritual Critic Reviews

A truly excellent and innovative adventure game.

A blast to play, especially for fans of puzzles, crime stories, psychology, and/or horror.

If you’re looking for a different kind of PC game then you can stop looking with Evidence: The Last Ritual. Be prepared for a hard challenge that will surely creep you out and have you looking around the room for something going bump in the dark.

For anyone who loved the first title, this one is an obvious pick-up. For everyone else, if you love puzzles and creepy scenery, pick up both titles, it would be well worth the money.

Those who consider themselves puzzle game connoisseurs or armchair detectives will have their skills severely tested and unlike the finale of "Missing: Since January", the conclusion is worth all the time and effort.

More or less a good game with some good concepts. Could be done just a little better but in the most part fun, especially if you’re bored with the same-old same-old murder mystery games.

While Evidence caters to a specific crowd and has some extremely difficult puzzles, the story, presentation, and feeling of actually partaking in some serial killer’s twisted game all add up to make this title - along with its prequel - still some of the most unique and highly entertaining adventuring to come along in years.

An exceptionally good brainteaser.

But, more than any other adventure game, Evidence puts you in a darkly atmospheric world: part fiction, part history, part reality.

The ability to pick up and play at your own pace is another definite good thing about this game that is great for the casual gamer. If you want a game that really gives your brain a run for its money while giving you the creeps at the same time, then Evidence is a game right up your alley.

If you happened to be among the first to solve some of the component puzzles for Haunted Apiary or another such ARG, or you simply have the patience, love the feeling of being a hardcore puzzle solver, and on top of that have a pretty strong stomach for disturbing, offensive, and humiliatingly subtle imagery, then the International Committee For The Phoenix Arrest could use your help.

If you enjoy a good horror mystery there’s definitely a lot of meat here to dig your teeth into provided you have the patience for the places that move a bit more slowly, or require a lot more dig. I think I’ll go play something warm and fuzzy now to chase away the chill.

The only thing that holds Evidence: The Last Ritual back is its excessive difficulty; otherwise, The Adventure Company has yet again crafted an amazingly vivid game that breaks expectations of what an adventure game can do.

Its "Se7en" -inspired serial killer lunacy is good for a genuine chill or two. It ain't perfect, but it's different and interesting enough to be worth a good look.

Although insanely difficult at times, Evidence is a compelling take on the tracking of a serial killer. You'll need a lot of patience to see it through to the end, though.

The main flaw in Evidence is not in its puzzles but in its storytelling. Evidence makes the mistake of many narratives: the only interesting character is the villain.

Evidence is an experimental serial-killer tale that will raise goose bumps and tempers.

For more literate-minded gamers who want a different sort of experience, this is a distinct and interesting attempt to broaden the adventure game genre.

Given how much I loathed playing it, I’d like to give it a really low grade. (Is there a Z?) But I can’t in all fairness do that, because this game is exactly what it’s supposed to be. What it does, it does well, and many of you will enjoy it. I didn’t.
