Exit the Gungeon is as crazy, manic and ambitious as its predecessor. It has addicting gameplay and the range of guns, items and enemies to experience is overwhelming. I only wish its level design was as great as the original.

Exit the Gungeon is a good game with roguelike and shooter features, realized in a inspirate bidimensional setting. Dodge Roll created a title challenging enough to give hours of fun in front of the display.

When I first heard about the change of formula for this sequel I did question it. However, what we have is something that is familiar yet fresh. Exit the Gungeon streamlines a lot of the great gameplay from the first game into something very unique, rewarding and extremely fun. I love it.

Exit the Gungeon is a very cute, fun and extremely entertaining game, and it really doesn't need to be much else. It is a quick casual experience, for hardcore and casual gamers alike, that you can play for only ten minutes or during an hour or more.

Exit the Gungeon is a frantic, challenging action shooter with interesting random elements, some very nice enemies and great pixel art graphics.

Pure Nintendo April 8, 2020
Exit the Gungeon is a refreshing next step for the franchise. The smaller scale comes with certain drawbacks, but it’s nonetheless a worthwhile experience, even if it’s not to the same standard as the original.

Exit the Dungeon is a solid shooter/platformer that iterates on the original concept. It doesn’t execute it as well as that, but overall it is a lot of fun.

Worth Playing April 17, 2020
Exit the Gungeon is a lot of fun to play, especially if you liked Enter the Gungeon. It is noticeably streamlined, which may hint at its mobile origins, but it's still a frantic and skillful bullet hell experience. It makes a few choices that don't fully pay off, such as its randomized guns arsenal that often feels like gambling. I'm not fully on board with the tight spaces restricting movement, and the new jump-dodge did not click for me in the same way as the trusty old dodge-roll. While these aren't necessarily small gripes, they don't suppress my enjoyment of Exit. If you enjoy twin-stick shooters or bullet hell games, Exit the Gungeon is a rough gem to take a closer look at.

Enter The Gungeon die-hards will be instantly familiar with the weird and wonderful world presented by Exit The Gungeon, but they might be taken aback by the shift in gameplay. This is a finely honed action-platformer that adds a new dimension to the blasting and dodge rolling. It's not always a flawless transition, and this is a significantly less rich and rewarding experience than the original. But those after a retro-tinged arcade challenge should by all means lock and load.

Exit the Gungeon's random gun-switching can be frustrating but it's also a chaotic challenge that makes each run fun.

Attack of the Fanboy March 31, 2020
Now with much more precise controls than its original release on iOS, Exit the Gungeon is a solid spin-off to Dodge Roll's indie darling that can often be a little too frustrating for its own good.

DarkStation April 15, 2020
Exit the Gungeon is much smaller game and is more focused on platforming action that disregards much of what made Enter the Gungeon so excellent. It is still a fun game, but one that I doubt many people will play to completion.

Those expecting the quality and polish of its predecessor will be disappointed with Exit the Gungeon. It’s too visually clustered and the new mechanics can be more frustrating than fun. Still, for a short burst of rogue-like goodness, you could do worse.

IGN Spain March 28, 2020
Exit the Gungeon rescues the thug style of its predecessor but its main mechanics can cause a high degree of frustration in the player due to different design decisions. However, we spend a very entertaining time in a world that will be more than familiar to the fans of Enter the Gungeon, drawn with magnificent detail and care.

NintendoWorldReport April 6, 2020
Exit the Gungeon is a really fun arcade game to play in short bursts from time to time. However, once you start playing longer sessions, the random nature becomes more apparent and frustrating. Success and failure can feel out of your control, and the game just seems unfair at points. The lack of accessibility and alienation of new players makes the experience more frustrating than it should be. For lovers of the original, Exit the Gungeon comes with an easy recommendation. However, for those new to the series, it may be better to exit stage right.

Although it often feels like luck dictates your success, Exit the Gungeon still boasts tight gameplay and a quirky fun-filled aesthetic.

Neat 2D-jump'n’shoot with hardly rewarding roguelike mechanics and frustrating weapon swap system, but charming enemy selection.

Screen Rant April 6, 2020
Exit The Gungeon is a hard game to freely recommend. For long-time Gungeon fans, it would’ve been an insta-buy if it ended up a match-three puzzler or dating sim, though it’s hard not to feel shorted by the final result. Its low retail cost helps sweeten the sell, and $10 does feel like the right price for what is, at the end of the day, just more Gungeon, but it’s impossible to imagine this game achieving the same distinguished standing as Enter The Gungeon, even after some expected updates and tweaks in the months to come.

Nintendo Insider April 13, 2020
If you don’t take things too seriously and play Exit The Gungeon for a little bit at a time, it can be great fun and easily worth the small asking price. It’s easy to see why some fans are a bit burnt with all the changes, but as a spin-off from the original and not a full sequel, Exit The Gungeon is a neat experiment. It shouldn’t come as anyone’s first foray into the series, but for those looking for more Gungeon, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Exit the Gungeon is not so much a full sequel, but rather the port of a mobile/tablet arcade title. As such, it is a simpler and more direct spin-off that relies on randomised weaponry and character-specific elevator runs to provide both challenge and variety for players.
