Rather than aping what's popular, it focuses on good gunplay and unique ways to make it interesting: the slow motion, the co-op, the scoring system, two distinct characters to emphasize replayability, and a story that knows its place and its limitations.

And while the additions of features like campaign co-op and survival-based multiplayer are not unwelcome, it's the core aspects of FEAR 3 that should be the reason you play this game.

The difficulty and length of the single player campaign and the lack of "true" competitive multiplayer (read: deathmatch) makes this game a little disappointing. But, truthfully, I can forgive that as the game has great replayability and an awesome game mode in F*cking Run.

Scary or not, F.E.A.R. 3 is an excellent FPS that delivers on all fronts – an excellent single player experience, drop-in campaign-based co-op, multiplayer player vs. bot co-op, and even player vs. player competitive fun – and it does it all in a unique and refreshing manner.

A very solid and good game, with a varied and satisfying gameplay and very original multiplayer options. It doesn't scare ad we would have liked, but it's a recommended buy for every fan of the series and FPS lovers in general.

FEAR 3 has a tendency to become rather enjoyable with its tough enemies, well-thought-out levels and a gripping horror style atmosphere. The developers also used an all-too familiar Alma-flavored pattern to weave together a proper storyline.

F.E.A.R. 3 lives up to, if not trumps, the prior experiences in the F.E.A.R. universe.

Another great addition to the series. It's not perfect but it's a lot of fun and there's a lot of value and re-play value included.

The strides it makes with co-op however -- along with its point accumulation system as well as some very tense and unique multiplayer modes -- makes this a great game to play with a giant bucket of buttered popcorn, a large Coca-cola, and some friends. This is your video game summer blockbuster.

Don't plan on understanding a word of the campaign; just plan on playing and replaying for higher scores, better multiplayer times, and the enjoyment you can only have from pure, hilarious, scared-stiff stupidity.

F.E.A.R. 3 offers some great replay value from not only giving the player an incentive to complete the game a second time around with the enigmatic Paxton Fettel but some very entertaining score based multiplayer fun. It may not be the most graphical game of the year but it does pack a punch where it counts with gameplay.

Being able to take down enemies with Fattel is worth the price of admission alone, as you don't often see a supernatural deity do his dirty work. Put the F.E.A.R. behind you and check this sequel out.

Series followers know what to expect, and they won't be disappointed. New features like the cover system and the cooperative mode work well, although the game won't make history.

F.E.A.R.3 isn't flawless, nor inventive but in the end, it works and deliver the thrills and excitement fans and non-fans are looking for in a $60 game. Aside from the complex story arc - if past games weren't played - there's enough substance to make it an easy and recommendable purchase.

From the single-player campaign that can be played through twice with two different characters to the co-op campaign that you can play through with a friend locally or online to an incredibly thoughtful multiplayer offering, F.E.A.R. 3 has a lot going for it.

F.E.A.R. 3 has its flaws, and some of its scares come off more as loud and obnoxious than genuinely frightening. Overall, though, the game is a fantastic blend of horror and action that's armed to the teeth with extras.

While F.3.A.R may not be the most competitive FPS on the market, it offers a ton of unique mechanics you really can't find anywhere else.

It's clear that Day 1 wanted to appeal to FEAR fans but also break the mold. As evident from the back of the box to the addition of co-op play to the team modes in multiplayer, they set out to make FEAR a more team game than ever before. I think they've succeeded in doing so, but at the cost of a solid single player campaign and the real sense of fear that more or less originally defined the series.

F.E.A.R. 3 isn't expertly polished or perfectly balanced, but it's got sufficient creeping dread and more than enough gameplay variety to fan our desire for more of Alma's apocalyptic evil.
