Fieldrunners 2 keeps the best aspects of the original title while borrowing from its brethren to come up with a fantastically fine-tuned challenge that remains rewarding whether you take the easy route or bash your head against its harder challenges.

It may not be as revolutionary as its progenitor but it's certainly capable of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the tower defense heavyweights in the App Store. SubAtomic Studios definitely have not lost their touch. Now, go buy it.

Things like the game's staggering variety of levels (endless wave, time challenge, maze-making), total lack of in-app payments, massive scope, and sense of whimsy... you'll experience all of that when you pick up the game.

Fieldrunners 2 takes the cartoonish tower defense fun of the original and expands it for even more fun.

Years of waiting have finally paid off with another polished strategic offering that improves upon the original in almost every way.

We had an absolute blast playing Fieldrunners 2, and recommend the title to any tower-defense fan. Even those who typically shy away from the genre will find a very different, and very enjoyable strategy title here.

Fieldrunners 2 is a fine example of just how much fun can be garnered from an iOS device. Offering many hours of fun for a mere $3 is an utter bargain and Fieldrunners 2 truly deserves its title of the new king of tower defense. Now, how about an iPad version?

All in all, if you're a tower defense fan, you probably don't need me to tell you to pick up this game. It's everything that you would expect from a sequel to one of the most popular iOS tower defense games, and if you don't mind that it is iPhone only, it's a must download.

There's plenty of depth here to challenge even the most experienced tower defence player but Fieldrunners 2 also has a learning curve that beginners will be able to follow. It's a must-have for your iPhone.

The charming art-design has been refined, surroundings appear more lively, the battles are more diverse, the difficulty level is more challenging, while new towers, units, rewards and unlockables offer increased tactical depth – an installment which clearly surpasses its predecessor.

Fieldrunners 2 could be considered as a "more of the same", but it's a good thing if "the same" was the first Fieldrunners. More enemies, weapons and bigger maps mean more fun for all the fans.

From a value perspective it'll absolutely stretch your three dollars over a dozen hours and many, many boring meetings. It's not to be missed.

Fieldrunners 2 blends the right amount of charm, skill and entertainment to make not just the best tower defense game of 2012, but one of the best iOS games all year.

Fieldrunners 2 is another top-notch tower defence game. A wonky difficulty and overlong battles dampens the fun, but this is well presented and full of content.

Fieldrunners 2 is definitely geared towards tower defense veterans, so newcomers to the genre will quickly become overwhelmed, but those looking for a new strategic challenge to conquer will get a lot out of this sequel.

It's not clear what the four year wait was in aid of but despite only a few, small, new ideas this is still one of the best Tower Defense games on any format.

Not enough is added to the moment to moment gameplay to combat the game's pacing problems, but I wouldn't discourage fans of tower defense from enjoying this colorful, if typical, tower defense romp.
