For 2D fighting bliss, look no further than Capcom Fighting Evolution.

With this, players get a nice crossover fighter between a good number of Capcom franchises, very responsive control, and a deliciously nostalgic, old school game experience. That’s certainly quite nice for the price.

Jam just feels remarkably like the quickly cobbled together game it so obviously is, leaving it in the awkward position of being less balanced than "Alpha 2" or "Street Fighter III," less joyful than "Marvel Vs Capcom 2" and far uglier than "Guilty Gear."

This one's for the hardcore players, kiddies. It's a perfect multiplayer game (especially if you have a hardcore fighting stick or two), but the casual fighting game fan sure isn't going to be entertained for long.

Too routine to stand out from the crowd--especially for Capcom fighting vets. After a few rounds, you should be more than satisfied.

We can only hope the inevitable sequel offers more fighters and modes.

For those looking for a true evolution of the fighting genre like the title implies, however, you're in for a severe disappointment; there's just not much to it that you haven't seen or experienced before.

A good fighter for those that really enjoyed the early Street Fighters, but it doesn’t live up to the standards Capcom has set for itself with more recent titles.

Evolution's problem is that each of the characters is distinct, but there aren't nearly enough of them for the game to stand on that concept alone.

The game is clearly best suited for hardcore fans of Capcom's fighting games, who might enjoy exploring some of the nuances here, but probably won't find much reason to keep coming back.

Just a step back and another nail in the coffin of the 2-D fighter.

For a game with the word "evolution" in its name, it's interesting that this title is so lackluster that it pushes the boundaries of ironic humor.

While there is nothing profoundly wrong with the game, it doesn’t put a unique twist on the game, it doesn’t have a large or comprehensive cast of characters, and it doesn’t look nearly as good as the competition.

This isn’t a bad game, but just the same, the audience is certain to be limited to gamers who are still fans of the Capcom legacy.

Honestly, I think you’d have to be a super fan of the 2D fighting games to really think this game was great.

This could've been a fantastic crossover title that really highlighted some of the company's greatest games, but instead is a competent game that features solid fighting and little else.

This isn't a terrible or bad fighting game, just an uninspired one.

The wasted potential here is like a swift kick to the face. Still, it's worth a play if you live by the gospel of QCF + P.

Certainly isn't the worst 2D fighting game ever made, but when you take into account the lack of effort on Capcom's part, the number of fan-favorite fighters that didn't make it onto the roster, and the complete lack of any sort of character building or online play features, it's tough to recommend this game to anybody.
