Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord Critic Reviews

A great tower defence strategy game that'll certainly get the grey matter going.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord is, like the other two games with the name of the franchise from Square Enix RPG for WiiWare, one of the best deals of the virtual platform for original games for the Wii. With a perfect interface, excellent graphics and a attractive soundtrack, the game has worked tirelessly to bring, of the best possible form, to players its interesting and innovative proposal of strategy RPG that is its reason for being. The linearity of gameplay can be considered a problem to the game, because, with it, you lose the charm of the open world of My Life as a King. Still, My Life as a Darklord is extremely addictive, and can leave a taste of "want more" - that probably will be satisfied by Square Enix and its policy of launching countless DLCs.

With a completely traditional control system (Wiimote is held in horizontal), Square Enix offer us an interesting proposal within the ever-popular tower defense subgenre thanks to My Life as a Dark Lord.

The limitations of WiiWare are apparent, but Square Enix has delivered one of the most polished titles on the platform. This is an intricate strategy game chock full of different monsters, traps, and items to use in your battle plan.

One word sums up the gameplay in the latest Final Fantasy spin-off for WiiWare - deep. There’s absolutely no way you’ll be disappointed with the sheer number of things to consider throughout the game.

There are plenty of levels to explore, and though the story is not as intriguing as My Life as a King, the tower defense structure is much more replay-friendly.

With a perfect user interface, good graphics and a compelling soundtrack, the game has worked tirelessly to provide the best possible players to the proposal interesting and innovative strategy RPG that provides a reason for being.

Square Enix has done a good job with its latest WiiWare development, with My Life as a Darklord being one of the greatest Tower Defense games that we've seen this year. With its stunning graphics and funny sense of humour, it's a good choice if you're looking for something cheap, interesting and pretty long for its gameplay style.

Difficulty issues aside, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord provides Wii owners with one of the best strategy games on the system.

There is depth here, especially for patient or committed fans, but the mercenary way that the game dangles this potentially richer gameplay as bait for overpriced DLC purchases sticks in the throat.

Better than My Life As A King but the bad guys still aren't having that much fun with their tower defence.

This is a good game but not a great one which consistently trips over its design such as the overall difficulty and enemy units which attack you just leave much to be desired because they are very generic and lack any sort of personality that your monsters and floors do. It seems like the enemy units were just slapped together based on older Final Fantasy games. Buy it only if you have points to spare.

Perhaps Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Dark Lord isn’t so much uninspired, though, as it is misleading.

What felt greedy before is on yet more dubious ground here - the feeling of tactical scope missing from the singleplayer campaign is largely due to Square Enix cutting out the goods to sell at a later date.
