As US politics go haywire, Kamala Harris says screw it, let's make a Fortnite map

I've wondered for a long time what the modern equivalent of the famous Nixon/Kennedy television debate would be. It was a leap in technology from radio to TV that was the first ever. Nixon, all clammy and strange, was comprehensively defeated by the slick, charismatic Kennedy, which may have determined the outcome of the election.

We have the answer: presidential Fortnite map. Kamala Harris, the current vice president and potential future president of the United States, has launched her own Fortnite zone called Freedom Town USA (via IGN). You can try it yourself by entering the code 733155366547 in Fortnite Creative.

Harris will not be using the map as a way to challenge Donald Trump in a 1v1 duels, nor will she be showing off her collection of Rick and Morty Skins. She's... discussing politics. You can find out about tax breaks and affordable homes. You know, all the things you play Fortnite for.

The Democratic campaign will also be adorning other Creative-mode maps, including the Fortnite Harris Zone, with political ads. IGN's tireless journalist notes that at the very least, one of the maps includes a clip in which Donald Trump says "they're consuming the cats and dogs" with his famously composed manner of speaking.

All of this makes me feel like I'm 253 years old. But let's face it: This is not new, and things will only get weirder and more widespread from here. We're getting older, and the people who grew up watching videogames, not just playing them, are now old enough to be campaign staffers. They can pitch candidates like Harris ideas on how to reach young men through videogames. You can see Kamala playing Fortnite, Tim Walz in Crazy Taxi and, God help us, Donald Trump streaming with Adin Ross.

My only question is whether Fortnite will be the right game for me. This is just a speculative vibe, but I have always associated Epic's Battle Royale with players too young to vote. Gen Alpha, and the like. If she wants to ignite a bunch of decrepit zoomers and millennials, she should make a Skyrim Mod or something.
