Fortnite OG is coming back in December. Chapter 1 season 1 will be returning and this time, it's here.

Fortnite players who long for the glory days of 2017, rejoice: Fortnite OG has returned, baby. And this time, it won't be going anywhere.

Real heads know that the original Fortnite was "a game about PvE, base-building and killing zombies. It's also a game where you watch cutscenes and grind for color-coded legendaries and epics in high-level areas."

But that's what Fortnite OG actually is: Originally a one-time event last year, it's a reversion to Fortnite Battle Royale as it was at the time Epic launched the mode that now dominates the world.

The big announcement states that "OG is BACK and here to stay." Explore the OG map and collect OG loot to relive OG Seasons. Drop back in on the 6th of December."

This guy is also excited:

The words "here for good" are perhaps the most memorable part of all this OG-ing. Epic brought Fortnite OG back in November 2023, and it was a resounding hit. It attracted more than 6.1 millions concurrent players. This new trip to the past will be available permanently, unlike the previous event.

It seems that returning to the old ways is a popular trend among major live-service gaming titles these days. Overwatch's Overwatch: Classic LTM brought back the 2016 heroes and maps of Overwatch. Apex Legends also recently went back to its roots, with its Launch Royale limited time mode. As usual, PUBG was first to the party, redeploying Erangel in April. Epic has been bringing back throwback Fortnite since a while. It's currently running Chapter 2 Remix with "weekly location and loot drop inspired by the best early Chapter 2 gameplay." This is set to last until November 30.
