Fans of the genre will find plenty to enjoy here, but the rough start and hefty (for an indie title) price tag might keep a lot of potential players from pulling the trigger.

Entertaining racing arcade with a raw atmosphere and enjoyable career modes. Pity the multiplayer games are rather unpopulated.

Once the game picks up speed, it does broadly provide the kind of high-speed explosive thrills promised; but it sure takes its sweet time getting there.

After a frustratingly hard first steps it can provide plenty of satisfaction – every race requires full attention as nothing is certain till you cross the finishing line.

Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage offers nice controls and decent graphics. Oddly global game design is poor and you may need to be bored before reaching the full potential of the game.

Good ideas that fail to materialize. That's the summary of this title, that ends up being simple and repetitive. It has some positive things, but it won't keep us playing for too long.

Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage is a goofy, entertaining battle racer with a good sense of humor and plenty of variety, provided you get past the brutally difficult intro. Gamepires is already releasing patches for the game so hopefully they open up more than just the solitary grinding race at the beginning of the game. For now, though, you'll need to suffer first before this games gives up all it has to offer.

Atavistic PC racing for when you want to party like it's 1995.

Gas Guzzlers does some things right, but the whole deal ends up feeling decidedly under par. Graphics are only fair, music is canned and looped, and the voice samples are poor. But beyond its mediocre production values is a wobbly foundation, and that's ultimately Gas Guzzlers' insurmountable flaw.

Somewhere, hidden within Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage, is a fun racer. Unfortunately, the fun is locked.
