Take-Two CEO: Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in 'fall' of next year. GTA 5 sold over 205 millions copies, and PCs will become a bigger part of our business moving forward.

Take-Two released its financial results for fiscal year 2025's second quarter. The house that Strauss constructed is doing well, even though all those beady shareholders eyes are still on one title. Take-Two's results show it is on track to meet its own expectations. The company has $1.47 billion of net bookings for this quarter, and a target of $5.55-$5.65 billion over the entire year. But forget that, where's Grand Theft Auto 6?

Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Strauss Zelnick, said that these results were "largely driven by the continued success" of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Borderlands in an investor call after the results. "We have the strongest portfolio of intellectual property in our sector." We expect to create value for our shareholders with the many exciting titles coming in Fiscal 2020, including Grand Theft Auto 6 this fall, Borderlands 4 in the spring and Mafia Old Country in the summer.

The results are accompanied with a list of 2K upcoming titles. Grand Theft Auto 6 is listed for "fall calendar 2025", but unfortunately, only on PS5 or Xbox Series S/X. Along with Grand Theft Auto 6, other titles on the list, such as Borderlands 4, Mafia : The Old Country and Judas, are also slated for PC release. In the best case scenario, PC gamers can expect GTA 6 to be released in 2026.

Zelnick made a comment about the different console platforms when he was discussing the Take-Two titles. This implied that things would improve in general with Take-Two releases and simultaneous PC release. Zelnick continued by saying that PC is the "open platform".

Zelnick performs a verbal dance when he is asked about the results of each game. Hard-nosed financial experts are examining the performance of each game and trying to find out more information on Golden Goose Theft Auto. Most of these questions are politely ignored, but they do reveal some interesting facts about GTA in general.

Zelnick says that Grand Theft Auto 5 sales have exceeded expectations. To date, the game has sold more than 205 million copies worldwide. "Grand Theft Auto Online also exceeded our expectations, driven by sustained engagement [...]. The momentum also continued in GTA+ with Rockstar growing its membership by 35% within the last year.

Zelnick also spoke about Red Dead Redemption 2 sales, which has been consistently charting since its release. The game, he said, has now sold more than 67 million copies to date.

The suits were not as self-congratulatory when it came to the Borderlands movie, which was one of the biggest flops in the past year and was widely panned both by critics and consumers. Zelnick responded to a shareholder's question about the financial contribution made by the Borderlands franchise. "We don't need to break down the contribution of the movie."

If you read between the lines, they are not happy. "Even though it was disappointing, the film actually benefited our catalog sales so that's a sign that a movie or TV show can drive sale and that's good," says Zelnick.

"We're very selective because we want to make sure that everything with our brands is a success." We can't promise that, especially if it's not in our hands. So we have licensed other titles and will continue to do so selectively.

Since Rockstar released its first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025, speculation has raged over whether or not the game will be released by that date. Rockstar has a history of releasing GTA games late, but they are "seeking perfection" in this title. As one former lead developer put it, "there's no competition" to be concerned about. Maybe by the end of next year, you'll have GTA 6 on consoles. Mr. Zelnick, along with all of his shareholders, certainly hope so.
