Sega has delisted a large number of its classic games from Steam, likely to sell you a collection.
Sega is preparing to destroy its collection of classic video games on Steam. A total of 60 games, including Ecco and Jet Set Radio, are about to be delisted. The list is huge and includes many games that defined generations, including Mega Drive/Genesis/Dreamcast. This includes both the Classics Collections and standalones.
All of them will be removed from the list on December 6, at 11:59 PM PST/December 7, at 7:59am GMT. You don't have to worry if you already bought the bundles, collections or individual games. The games will be removed from the market. Sega's FAQ has the complete list.
Sega hasn't given a reason for delisting but it is worth noting that the company has announced new entries to a number series, such as Shinobi and Crazy Taxi. This alone does not justify the delisting. Especially when the majority of the 60 titles on the list do not get modern makeovers. It's unlikely that the reason for the delisting is a licensing issue. This is one of the most common reasons why games are removed.
I'm betting on Sega to release new collections. Sega could re-sell the existing collections, which have been on Steam since over a decade. It's not ideal because there's a good chance that the new collection will be more costly, but it is better than them being removed from Steam.
This is not me being a cynic, because Sega has done this before. It started delisting Sonic classics a few years ago. This included those in the Mega Drive/Genesis Classics Collection. They were then repackaged as Sonic Origins.
If you want to indulge in some nostalgia and don't wish to spend money on a new collection, then you have a whole month to get these games.
