GRID is, by and far, one of the best times I've had with a racing game. Thanks to a great mixture of arcade and simulation, with a wide variety of options to let you cater the game to you, it's suitable for everybody. Not only that, thanks to the nemesis system and AI race-master, as well as the 400 unique AI personalities within the game, each and every race genuinely feels different. Simply put, GRID looks, sounds and plays great and is arguably the best all-around game from Codemasters.

A fitting return to form for the GRiD franchise, especially given the five year gap since Autosport. Doesn’t take itself too seriously, so it’s a title anyone can pick up and play. Would be just as at home in an arcade cabinet as it is in the console under your TV or on your PC.

Grid is back to establish itself as one of the most exciting racing games in recent years. Missing a bit of courage, but the amount of cars and disciplines manages to keep high the desire to play. There are some technical limits and only 30 frames per second, but also wonderful weather and lighting management.

Overall, GRID is a very good game – but one that fails to fully find its own voice. One thing that defined the series when it began was a unique team-based premise and a defined structure to its career mode. You had a sense of identity there that isn’t present now and it hurts the overall experience. Fortunately, the core racing action is still top-shelf and the nemesis system keeps you glued to the race and doing your best to either avoid contact or exploit it depending on your play style. This reboot isn’t my favorite in the franchise, but it is the best-playing on-track experience even if the rest of the game doesn’t quite match its greatness.

After five years inside the garage, GRID comes back to the track with a great reboot. It is not as fast as DiRT or F1 reboots, but it offers spectacular races on a few circuits, specially the urban ones.

So how successful was Codemasters in their goal to create a fun experience? They did pretty well. With Grid, Codemasters have crafted a fun racing experience and managed to inject some personality into the game to boot.

Grid offers an enjoyable racing experience that tests your driving skills. With the nemesis feature, a ton of racing personalities, and the flashback feature, there's a good amount to make it unique. There are some annoying track designs that drag you down, but most of them are winners.

IGN October 8, 2019
It’s more streamlined than the original in terms of team management and it’s definitely way too lean on tracks, but Grid packs fun, fast-paced racing into an easy-to-digest format. Sure, it’s unrealistic for the final race to be Prototypes jumping up and down San Francisco’s iconic hills, but Grid isn’t trying to be a realistic facsimile of modern racing. Hell, with throngs of spectators dangling over the Armco, if Grid were realistic the tracks would just be a sea of severed hands and heads. Instead, it’s a hyperbolic brand of high-contact, Hollywood-style circuit and street racing delivered with style and confidence.

An exciting return to form for the GRID franchise. This is a well thought and executed arcade racing game, with lots of events and races.

A final note of merit also goes to the solidity and stability of the code, which during our test has never allowed us to glimpse any imperfection, much less declines in framerates. While not making a miracle cry, GRID appears sufficiently solid (at least on PS4 Pro) also from a technical point of view.

Once the feel of the grind of the Career Mode begins, the initial appeal starts to wear off even though the varying race experiences try to hide it. The multiplayer experience is seemingly just an afterthought with something that could have had so much potential. But with beautiful visuals and impressive gameplay, fans of the original GRID will find that this modern version will suit them on the track.

Ultimately, Codemasters plays it safe with GRID, for better and worse. There's certainly a lack of features, less modes, and a lesser number of cars and tracks than other contemporary racers. This is a no-frills arcade racer, but a very good one. If solid racing action is the only thing you care about, GRID has it in spades.

For as big as the world is, and for as many car companies are out there, you want a little bit more variety in a racing game that is spread out globally.

GRID returns and reaches the finish line in triumphant fashion. Codemaster commitment to blend arcade and simulation elements is, undoubtedly, a winning formula that is only strengthened with the furiousness of the AI.

A solid reboot of the popular racing series, which is strong when it comes to driving, but it suffers from lack of content and rushed development. The game could have used a few more months of development, so that even the biggest perfectionist wouldn´t have any issues.

GRID is a good racing arcade, and even if it’s far from perfect, we feel like its virtues compensate for its shortcomings.

GRID has some interesting new features, but at the end is a very classic sim-arcade driving game with solid engine and gameplay.

GRID focuses on the basics, and that is barebones racing. Don’t expect anything beyond that to keep you motivated.

GRID isn’t a revolution for the racing games genre but that’s not what we asking him to be. It’s a cool little racer with clean visual, accessible driving and a good variety of races.

GRID is looking for its niche in a highly competitive genre with an eclectic proposal that wants to please everyone but therefore does not delve into any particular field.
