Despite having predetermined outcomes, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie does a great job at giving players a true sense of agency over the direction of the story. Even when things don’t go as expected, the events that unfold are no less intriguing. The game raises the bar for what can be achieved through player choice, and those looking for a compelling narrative-driven experience have plenty to enjoy here.

A compelling, nuanced story told beautifully and with many diverging paths, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie is a stunning example of how powerful the visual novel format can be. It uses the desires, pains, and histories of its characters to paint a rich emotional landscape against the context of a changing world, with the player’s decisions shaping both the intricacies and the broad strokes of this world’s future. With striking art design, immersive writing, and massive variety of story possibilities, this is a must-play for narrative adventure fans.

Harmony The Fall of Reverie is an excellent narrative adventure: deep, mature, and exciting. It takes us on a journey about hardship, identity, and destiny, asking what role we want to play in a larger-than-expected story and in what ways we would like to shape not only the lives of a small group of people, but of an entire culture and in a sense even all of humanity. It is a game of pure storytelling, extremely focused on its strengths, even at the cost of limiting the pace and the introduction of any Life is Strange-style action gameplay mechanics.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie is something special. While it's easy to write it off as "another great game from DON'T NOD," Harmony is something much, much more. It allows us to see our world through someone else's experiences and it teaches us that there is great power in one person's decisions. If you love story, replayability, and the chance to be moved by excellence in writing and acting, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie is for you.

First and foremost, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie tells a captivating story. It excels in all aspects of game analysis, from its core mechanics to its fictional & narrative involvement, artwork, and replayability. Unfortunately, visual assets are re-used too often, breaking the first-sight sense of awe. Still, it stands out in the visual novel genre. Quoting the game, "change is a long-term process," and even the smallest decisions can have huge repercussions. You can spend tens of hours playing the game and keep returning for more. We can envision Harmony: The Fall of Reverie as a compelling narrative board game; all the ingredients and the core framework are already in place. We highly recommend the game for those looking for a captivating and emotionally interactive narrative. It is a must-play for visual novel & story-driven game fans.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie from DON’T NOD plays like a proper branching narrative visual novel should play. The acting, writing, and general presentation are the icing on the cake to make this type of gameplay work very well. While it won’t be for everyone, it certainly is top tier for those who are looking for a good branching narrative journey.

A peculiar visual novel, which represents the most mature work made by DON'T NOD.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie ia a narrative videogame with an intense story. Even if the play structure is not original, it is still well blended into the context and works admirably. A must have if you are a fan of the Don’t Nod stories.

Harmony’s main problem is that it is restricted by its structure as a visual novel. While it makes no attempt to be anything else, due to its limitations, the game can be quite hard to recommend to those who wouldn’t normally enjoy visual novels. However, for those who the style appeals to, this is an excellent release you won't want to miss. The story is one of the most incredible and unique, with a great deal of thought put into every single twist and turn.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie near-expertly combines rich storytelling and detailed decision making to create an epic tale of worlds colliding. Behind the beautiful exterior, there’s a fully actualised universe with exciting mechanics, compelling story arcs and characters truly worthy of your emotional investment. If you put in the work, it’s an experience unlike any other.

With all this in mind, I highly recommend playing Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, especially if you are looking for a different direction for this genre. Even those who enjoy strategy games will be puzzled by its multiplex timeline system. I certainly can’t wait to see the alternative endings with my next phase of playthroughs and look forward to the outcomes of other players as more personality types introduce unique pathways.

Blending an absorbing tale across worlds, with a novel but mechanically-engaging interpretation of player-choice, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie sets a new standard for Don’t Nod with what might be their best, most rewarding work to date. A narrative chock full of interesting characters and equally-interesting curve-balls to manage — with truly great performances from its cast to match. A game that spends as much time on the smaller moments as it does the grandiose ones, what truly gives Harmony that cutting edge, is its puzzle-like subversion on offering choice to its player. A system, as much means of presentation, that balances long-term planning with short-term deductions on the right course of action versus the more helpful one. All while still finding the means to surprise and leave its players in suspense at just what lies around the corner. Intriguing from start to finish, for any fan of player-choice narratives and/or visual novels alike, Harmony: The Fall of Reverie can not go overlooked.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie, the new release from Don't Nod, follows the famous essence of the studio by presenting a very light story that is capable of awakening the deepest emotions in the player.

IGN June 14, 2023
Harmony: The Fall of Reverie is a powerful visual novel that mixes a world-bending story with deeply personal stakes. Helpful quality-of-life features like the ability to go back and re-read earlier messages are also as approachable as they are omnipresent. It takes a while to get going, though it also makes familiarizing yourself with its somewhat dense lore easy thanks to a built-in codex that explains most of the in-world jargon required to understand what’s going on. But hidden between Reverie’s magic and metaphors is a story firmly rooted in the power of community, reflecting the resilience of the human spirit itself.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie won’t be for every player, but it’ll enthrall those looking for a relevant, gorgeous game at the intersections of genres: science fiction and fantasy, the interpersonal romance visual novel and the choose-your-own-adventure books of childhoods. If you like visual novels as a genre in specific, the Augural is also a neat little innovation that I think should be played through at least once. I’m sure in time, much like the world of Glory I made, ambitious developers will take this approach and build upon it in exciting ways—for now, though, Reverie is certainly worth a visit.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie is a game that risks a lot with its proposal, betting on a purely plot game, leaving out practically any interaction on our part. The story is intriguing from the start, and the number of choices that are available means that we can play it on more than one occasion. The quality of the drawings, the design of the settings and the characters and the depth that has been given to each one are the strong point of this title, which seeks, as always, to leave a mark on us as they have done since Don't Nod with its previous titles.

Nice visual novel with exciting characters and interesting story concept, but cannot maintain its high level until the finale.

Harmony: The Fall of Reverie feels like a game that works best for players who are curious about the visual novel genre but want more recognizable game mechanics and a few restrictions to help them along. The Augural makes choices simple enough if you're trying to go for a specific outcome, but the story and character reactions make you second-guess your approaches. The game looks and sounds wonderful compared to many of its contemporaries, and while it might not make you a convert to the genre, it is an interesting adventure that you'll want to go through, provided you can get over the constant world-flipping and a few story quibbles.
