Helldivers 2 allows players to fight a variety of giant alien bugs. There are scuttling, flying, armoured, barfing, and, as of the controversial Escalation of Freedom Update, colossal, betentacled, impaling bugs. Helldivers 2's player, however, has seen a rare Terminid species that no Helldiver had ever seen before: bouncing bug.
Said Helldiver was the (excellently-named) FortyFourTomatoes who posted a Reddit video of themselves fighting off a huge cluster of Terminids while they waited for extraction from a missions. The twist? The twist?
It's one of the most memorable glitches in Arrowhead's cooperative shooting game. Each Terminid on the screen is rebounding 30 feet into air, regardless of their size and simulated mass. Hunters, spewers, warriors, Chargers. At the 23 second mark you can see an Impaler bursting out of the ground, its tentacles drooping beneath it like broken wings as it soars gracefully into the sky.
This is the most ridiculous video game bug I've ever seen. From r/Helldivers
This bizarre physics glitch is not well understood. Some of the replies claim to have experienced the same bug, but offer no more insight than the original post. Most of the replies are either jokes, or references to the classic Badger Badger Mushroom Internet Animation (which celebrated its 20th birthday last year if you feel old). There are also the usual requests that bouncing enemy be made a feature. One user suggested adding it as a gravity moderator. I prefer to incorporate the concept into fiction by adding a rubber-only planet. Helldivers are known to deploy into combat in a way that results in very short missions. Their hellpods would ricochet back and cause catastrophic damage to their spaceships.
This is not the only strange error that the community has encountered while playing Helldivers 2 Another unfortunate player was affected by a bug which caused them to be unable to control (and ultimately deadly) gas. Helldivers 2 is capable of producing some hilarious events even when it's not glitching. For example, the player who accidentally catapulted a Charger through a Bile Titan managed to kill them. It's unfortunate that the discussion about the game revolves so much around balance. What I really want is for it to have as much silliness as possible.
