Helldivers 2’s 60-day update, which was due to be released this weekend, has now been renamed a 63 day update because, oh, there's also a Saturday.

If you've followed the Helldivers 2 story, you know that Arrowhead Games has a democratically sanctioned mission to turn around the ship. Fair play, it appears they've done a good job so far.

A massive, buff-heavy patch for balance arrived last month. It made a wide variety of loadouts feasible for most players. This means you're not hemmed in to a few specific weapons for missions, which goes against the overall strengths of the game and its Warbonds system. This trade seems to have been a good one, despite the fact that it has lost a lot of its difficulty.

But that's only the first step. Shams Jorjani, the CEO of Helldivers 2, promised in August that the game would be fixed within 60 days. It's now October 11, and it was August 13, so the end of the wait is right around the corner. October 12 is the exact date.

Alas, the 60-day clock is now a timer for 63 days. Shock and horror! Broken promises! It's not really a mistake, but rather a scheduling mishap. Arrowhead does not patch their game on weekends, because everyone is busy playing the game, and patches tend to break stuff.

This was explained in a tweet posted by the CCO Johan Pilestedt, and design director Niklas Mlmborg. Pilestedt admits, "We didn't check the calendar." "It is a Saturday and we don’t patch on weekends because we don’t want to break the game when you are playing it."

Arrowhead will instead skip the weekend, and release the patch on Tuesday. Although technically cheating, the studio is following its usual release schedule. This is a fancy term for saying that patches are usually released on Tuesdays. The last few patches arrived on September 24, September 17 and August 20. All were released on the favorite day of the germanic war god Tiw (or Mars if you ask Romans).

Malmborg says, "We'll give you a sneak peek at our most exciting new features." The Autocannon will have its own flak blast, which I assume will work like the Eruptor. The Recoilless Rifle will get "programmable ammunition", whatever that is, and the Scorcher's automatic fire mode.

Stalwart is experiencing something, but the company has not specified what. Your drone backpacks are now recalled if you're worried about friendly fire.

I personally think that my rover accidentally killing my friends was part of its charm. But, other than that, things are looking good for ol’ Helldivers 2. I never thought it dead, as 10,000 players is a healthy playerbase for anything not called World of Warcraft or Destiny 2, but the game has had its issues since its release last summer. The culmination of Jorjani’s 60-day journey to glory should arrive on October 15, fingers crossed.
