Helldivers 2’s buff-happy patches are here and I can feel the flames of freedom burning bright once more.
Patch 01.001.100, which is part of a 60-day update plan for Helldivers 2, aims to completely revamp the game's approach to weapon diversity and enemy heavyweights.
The new anti-tank weapons are stronger and more powerful than ever before. They can even damage heavy armour.
This is a big change from the way Arrowhead Studios handled things before, with many of the weapons in the game feeling like pea-shooters against the enemies to democracy. As it will have been released a few hours ago, I won't comment on the bugs, crashes, and glitches we'll see. But, having played a few games this morning, I can already tell a difference.
My primary weapons also felt stronger in general--much more able than before to punch through enemy armor, which is great for the weapon that you're supposed to be using, well, as your primary. I'm not imagining it--the patch note has a ream full of primary weapon buffs. For example, the much-maligned Counter Sniper had its damage increase from 140 to 200, and its durable damage increased from 14 to fifty.
My favorite note is the Thermite Grenade. Its "explosion damage has been increased from 100 up to 2000". This is not a mistake.
All of this is to say that Helldivers 2 has become a little easier. It's also a lot more enjoyable. Arrowhead is committed to making its weapons versatile, while specialized stuff should, as the CCO recently noted, be a "delete button" for tanky enemies.
