Some Helldivers 2 players have been building a 'Democratic Space Station" in the lead-up to Liberty Day. Others think it's just so the Illuminate will be able to steam in and blow it all up.
Helldivers 2 will soon celebrate an important fictional anniversary, Liberty Day. On October 26, the citizens of Super Earth celebrate glorious freedom. Arrowhead Game Studios and the playerbase will also be celebrating this occasion. The original game would mark the occasion with title screen fireworks, in-game content, and (often but not always) events.
Arrowhead appears to be preparing for something. Players are building the Democracy Space Station (DSS), a "powerful strategic tool for reshaping Galactic Map." Major Orders, which are the way Helldivers move around planets, have been focusing on liberating relevant worlds in the last few weeks. Players have been ping-ponging between Automaton and Terminid. Well, mostly Automaton.
Helldivers have been largely successful with these MOs. Most recently, Claorell has been taken down and the prize is a new alloy that allows the DSS to do FTL jumps. Cloarell, who has been a repeat offender, has resisted giving up control, and pushed back. This latest victory revealed a new alloy that the Automatons use in their construction. It is almost certainly the same material used by the Iron Fleet enemies in the game files (flying armoured robots).
Least_Clothes says, "I hope [Liberty Day] is when the DSS is done." xPsyrusx also agrees that "this is the best bet." The copium fumes all point to the same thing: the yet-to-be-seen third faction of the game, which will ruin the party.
Chancer93 believes that the Illuminate will destroy the DSS as soon as we finish it. Everkid612 says, "The Illuminate will invade Super Earth during the celebrations." "We're going to get Battle of Coruscant-ed and they're using the distraction to establish their presence in the galactic South."
Kid-Colt agrees that "releasing Illuminate without any warning on Liberty Day would be the best move."
Liberty Day is likely to involve the DSS somehow, as the timings of the event are a little too convenient. This is the first time Arrowhead has had the chance to celebrate Liberty Day with the new game. Helldivers 2 was a huge success, so there will be some sort of explosion: but whether it's a shiny, new base of operation or a full Illuminate invasion, remains to be determined. We'll be at the Super Earth frontlines, reporting back on any developments. The date itself is a nice touch. The Helldivers celebrate Liberty Day every October 26th because the novel Starship Troopers first appeared on that date in 1959.
