Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is fantastic. It’s a highly immersive experience with great writing that will have you fall in love with some characters and hate others, while also giving you the opportunity to live out your rogue fantasies. Every minute is a genuinely fun DnD-esque experience, even when having to study for a test or have the protagonist complete tasks like learning how to lockpick or fight. A definite must-have for any isometric RPG fans.

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is the perfect continuation of a genre. The same developers who helped bring classic adventure titles to life are the ones who brought this title to life, with the help of some Kickstarter backers. It's a nearly perfect game for those who played adventure titles in the past or players who enjoy exploring dense, witty, and mysterious worlds (with a splash of fantasy along the way).

It’s quite an entertaining and satisfying rhythm, and of course, it’s up to you to establish your own priorities during the school year. No matter how you choose, and whether you play on Switch or PC, Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption worth the price of tuition. Well, not Shaun’s non-existent tuition, but worth the cost of the game on either platform.

You can feel the passion for the classic games dripping from every pore, but you can also feel the budget crunch as the team tried to stay within their means. The world just isn’t as alive as some of the older games, but there are still plenty of joys to be had here with a fair bit less frustration to boot.

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is a successful return to the Quest for Glory universe as well as a clever, addictive and highly replayable adventure game in its own right. Fans of the franchise will find lots of little references and in-jokes to revel in as they make their way through the substantial campaign, and newcomers should enjoy the well-written, smartly balanced mix of point and click puzzling, time/relationship management and turn-based combat on offer.

All in all, Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is a charming take on the Harry Potter-esque magical boarding school genre. The writing is clever, the world-building interesting, and the puns are omnipresent. The actual point-and-click gameplay is solid if unexceptional, dragged down only by a superfluous combat system. If you're a fan of point-and-click adventures, you'll find a lot to enjoy here, even if the Switch version requires more effort than the PC-based iteration.

Even though its adaptation to the Nintendo Switch could have used a
better control system - seeing as Nintendo's platform does not have a
mouse - Hero U is nothing short of a little gem in the Switch catalogue,
thanks to its humour, writing and overall atmosphere. Fans of adventure
RPGs have plenty to look forward to here.

Hero U, with its approach to RPG with more emphasis on character growing and social interactions over action, results in a unique and very enjoyable adventure capable to keep users entertained for hours and hours, despite its unpolished combat and some technical issues.

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption for the Nintendo Switch is a great port of a classic adventure game that pays faithful homage to the Quest For Glory PC series of games. If you've never played a classic point-n-click adventure game expect a lot of reading, clicking on objects, and dialogue text to go through. For the impatient gamer, this might be a bit trying as some of it might even get tiresome for a seasoned adventure game veteran. To those that preserve you'll be treated to classic and entertaining adventure!

Because Hero-U feels so heavily indebted to a particular moment in gaming history, it’s really hard to fully enjoy the game unless you lived in that particular moment (or, I guess, if you somehow developed an appreciation for the genre in the ensuing decades). If the idea of a point-and-click adventure that’s heavy on the puns and on the clicking sounds like heaven to you, then you’ll be in luck with Hero-U, but otherwise, you’ll probably want to skip this one.

Hero-U: Rogue To Redemption is a funny, intriguing story that Dungeons & Dragons fans may enjoy for the use of abilities and skills in gameplay. The narrative and skill building mechanics are engaging and rewarding, however the game could use a few tweaks to make movements mechanics less of a chore on the Nintendo Switch console. Despite the frustrating controls, Hero-U: Rogue To Redemption is a good fit for players who enjoy a retro-style RPG adventure.

Hero-U is an imperfect experience that it is difficult to recommend, even to fans of these devs’ previous work. It might be an interesting proposal to those looking for something far outside RPG norms, but there are too many other choices out there to give this one a general recommendation — if nothing else, I’d suggest tracking down the original Quest for Glory titles instead!

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption is a fun game with great exploration, unique graphical design, and a great fantasy setting. Despite all this, I found myself having a hard time getting into the overarching narrative of a young thief on his road to redemption.

I found this to be too slow for my liking, but if you want a slow-paced game with lots of idle chit-chat and an occasional battle, then this might be right up your street. The sedate pace and minimalist mechanics will probably divide critics, but this one found it dull and unengaging.
