Despite some quirks, every FPS fan can stand in line along with Kim Jong-un to gather this competently crafted first person shooter.

An open-world waiting for you to conquer it, with varied types of areas offering varied types of gameplay. You don't even have to pay attention to the silly story! You just have to want to take over the map.

It has strong points like stealth gameplay and co-op, but all in all it's just average. A focus on stealth would have been better.

Homefront: The Revolution delivers a decent but often generic open world experience, with challenging survival mechanics and some interesting platform sections.

The tormented development of Homefront: The Revolution shows in gameplay that is far from perfect, and ruined by a myriad of bugs. The urban scenery is quite varied, there are some good ideas in the weaponry and the gadgets departments, but this is a game we can recommend only to fans of the peculiar, dystopic setting.

Flawed AI and quite a bit of repetitiveness can't deny the fact that Homefront: The Revolution is still a fun, thrilling game with lots of good moments in it. The awesome weapons arsenal and great atmosphere urges us to continue liberating the streets of Philadelphia.

Homefront: The Revolution shows great promise early on just to fall short with the execution. Clichéd story, repetitive gameplay, horrible AI and terrible optimization really kills it for me. Which is a shame, because at times I really enjoyed the game. 6-12 months on the drawing board would have made huge difference.

While Homefront: The Revolution is a good game when you finally get it to work, it is not a new experience.

If it wasn't for the bugs and the awful graphical optimization, Homefront: The Revolution certainly would deserve more and it's one of the rare cases in which a sequel is better than the predecessor.

Homefront: The Revolution "borrows" successfully some proven worthy ideas, it has good implementation in some things, in others not and all of them combined create a perfect ... mediocrity. Just like its predecessor.

Despite the shoddy graphics and performance, and a story that could use polish in its execution, Homefront: The Revolution has a solid foundation. It’s challenging and the mission variety in a pseudo open-world game is the best I’ve played in a while. It kept me engaged for its 22 hours. At the end, I felt satisfied. I hope to see another one with a bigger budget behind it.

The new Homefront does not excel in any field, carrying the wounds of a troubled development. The gameplay is too rough, the AI unrefined, the campaign very short (unless you get involved in the tedious subquests). The biggest fault of The Revolution, though, is the decision to re-write the setting, trivializing the impressive work that John Milius did for the first chapter.

Homefront: The Revolution is a weird mix of things going great and things going south. Gameplay that combines the best of sanbox games and linear shooters is interesting and can be appealing. It's a shame that nothing really stands out and even the best parts of the game suffer from technical issues. It's a fairly long game but I'm not sure it deserves the time.

On paper The Revolution has been designed as an amazing sandbox with complex modifying weapon systems and a strong sense of guerrilla warfare. However, every element out there is unpolished and many of the ideas ultimately fail because of that.

Homefront: The Revolution has everything a modern shooter needs : open-world game, loot system, crafting system… All these things will allow you to spend a good time but there are too many technical issues. Just wait for some patches.

At its basis (which were copied from Ubisoft) Homefront is not a bad game, but total lack of innovation, ridiculous AI and myriad of lesser flaws make it hard to recommend to anyone but the most avid Far Cry fans.

The Revolution wants to Make Homefront Great Again but fails to shed the fact it was only ever mediocre to begin with.

An interesting change of pace for a first person shooter that has some nice ideas and mechanics, but can’t quite get everything to sing.

Despite its problems, Homefront: The Revolution isn't the disaster many would have anticipated, and it gets a lot right. If you're after a Far Cry game this year but don't want to throw sticks at mammoths, then it's worth checking out.

Perhaps the saddest thing about Homefront: The Revolution is that it's capably developed. It's not buggy (at least not in the PC version I played) and runs smoothly. The guns feel fine, the lone vehicle (a motorcycle) is easy to control. But there's never a moment that feels like it's reaching for something more than a check-the-box open world shooter.
