The need to freeze and break enemies, rather than just straight shooting of them adds an extra dimension to the game. The challenges that you meet later on also means some brainpower is required to negotiate the levels.

A few bosses, a few graphical tricks, and the game is over in about 2-3 hours.

It's a great game but there just isn't enough to it to justify it being a buyable game, unless of course -- you're looking for a dose of nostalgia with an updated look and a neat twist.

If you love puzzle style games or games with an 80's arcade feel to them then you may have something here. Otherwise, I'd say take a pass.

It's just not enough substance or challenge for a serious gamer.

Simple in concept and deep in technique. The problem is that the three different areas barely offer anything the previous one already did, so there's a distinct lack of variety throughout the experience.

A platform-style puzzler that's clearly aimed toward a young audience. Older players will laugh (at least, they ought to) at the game's simplistic controls, straightforward puzzles, and rudimentary graphics.

The game suffers from too little variety, and freezing monsters over and over again can get tiring.

Despite the game's sub-par graphics and repetitive gameplay, it still manages to be entertaining enough to be worth a look.

It has some new twists unfamiliar to puzzle enthusiasts, but nothing so raw or innovative as to really put it a cut above its brethren.

And sound, the final frontier for every Worth Playing review: adequate. MIDI songs, completely unmemorable. Clearly digitized sounds, somewhat unsatisfying, but videogame-y enough. Your ears will hear, but your brain will not be stimulated.

From level to level you won't find much variety in the gameplay. Like the soup at a buffet there's not much spice to it - and there's no way you can add any after the fact.

The idea behind the freezing bad guys and turning them into stackable blocks is fairly cool (in a Lode Runner sort of way) but ultimately the game just doesn't hit even the lowest of marks.

Although Hugo: The Evil Mirror is set up like a puzzle game, there's nothing really puzzling about it.
